    Hun, I told you I’m out with the boys tonight. I reminded my girlfriend.

    In front of me was a table prepared with my favourite roast. I inhaled to smell the lamb, fresh out of the oven, and the mouthwatering steamed vegetables. I watched as the butter on the asparagus melted into the bowl, my mouth salivating at the sight of it all.

    Shannon had gone all out; there were even candles at the table. I raised my head as she stood up, that look on her face, her eyes bloodshot red - she was infuriated.

    You were out with the boys last night! Daniel, sometimes I wonder why I even bother with you… Her eyes were teary as she began to pack up the cutlery.

    C’mon Hun, they cancelled last night’s catch-up because all the boys couldn’t make it.

    Stuff you Daniel, that’s not fair. I spent hours making all this! She was so angry she slid the lamb off into the bin.

    I’m sorry, but I told you that it got cancelled, I said, wincing at the good food going to waste.
