About this ebook

For an insider's look at getting hired, purchase this book by Phil Rosenberg, internationally recognized job search expert, the most connected career coach on Linkedin, and former recruiter. Learn how Phil teaches job seekers to accelerate their job search and thrive in today's massively competitive job market.

Phil Rosenberg is president of reCareered.com, a leading job search information and career advice website. A former executive and top recruiter for one of the largest international recruiting firms, Phil's book puts job search traditions and sacred cows out to pasture. Instead, Phil gives you an inside look through the eyes of hiring managers, recruiters and HR reps - so you can know what your audience wants ... and give it to them.

When you understand the hiring managers' underlying problem, you can brand yourself as a superior candidate leveraging that impression into more interviews
and more job offers. Job Search Secrets teaches you how to anticipate what a specific company and hiring manager is really seeking, getting beyond job descriptions to the root problem that a hiring manager is trying to solve. Phil shares his experience as a job seeker (frustrated by employer hiring dysfunction), as a hiring manager (frustrated that candidates didn't communicate their skills in a way that easily matched up with employer needs) and as a top recruiter - leading candidates through the maze of corporate hiring and translating skills into needs for hiring managers.

Phil shows you why your current job search strategies work against you and how to replace them with strategies that improve your odds. Phil doesn't just share old recruiter tales, but provides you with research - cold, hard statistics provided by job boards and hiring managers themselves, to show you what works and what doesn't in the worst job market in our lifetimes.

Job Search Secrets is your guide to effective job search post-2007, in a job market with job shortages ... not candidate shortages. "It doesn't matter what I think, what you think, what your friends think, or what recruiters think ... the only thing that matters in your job search is what HR departments and hiring managers think."

    Introduction

Don’t Follow The Norms Of Job Search

    by Phil Rosenberg

Most of the candidates I talk to fall back on the traditional norms of job search. It’s what we’re used to, it’s what we were taught by our college placement office, it’s reinforced by most career coaches, outplacement firms and career authors.

So why wouldn’t you want to follow the norms? … because the norms don’t work.

"What do you mean they don’t work?, you ask. Why would all of these career bloggers write about the norms if they didn’t work?

    Different market: You were
