God has anointed Sandie Freed with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. She has the same anointing as the sons of Issachar, who discerned what God’s people should do to gain victory over their enemies.

Most theologians declare that everything that happened in the natural in the Old Testament is a type and shadow of what takes place spiritually in the New Testament Church. The book of Hebrews uses the tabernacle of Moses with all its furniture, functions, sacrifices and offerings to explain Jesus and His Church. The apostle Paul declared this to be a proper hermeneutical practice in Romans 15:4 and 1 Corinthians 10:6, 11.

INTRODUCTION

The book needs writing, and the devil needs exposing!

What in the world am I doing? Who am I to believe I have the spiritual goods to write a book that discloses such powerful evil forces? Since the first day I penned my thoughts, I have encountered discouragement, depression and insecurity. I know I have cried out for Your mysteries to be revealed, but I did not know it would be this hard! And then, how do I share what You have revealed? How do I truly express the importance of overcoming the seductions of the enemy? Please let me go. I want to be released from this assignment! I do not want to write this book. Surely someone else could do a much better job on this subject!

Oops! Excuse me! I did not realize you were listening to my conversation with God. Allow me to fill you in a little more. It has been much more than an exchange of dialogue; it has been a wrestling match with the Lord. Like Jacob, the Old Testament patriarch, I wrestled with the Lord throughout the entire night until the break of day (see Genesis 32:24–25). The Holy Spirit led Jacob into a place he did not want to go. He wanted out of his assignment, just as I wanted out of mine. Jacob held on to God until he received a blessing. I was holding out for mine.

The frustration that led to the conversation was the result of intense spiritual warfare. Satan hates exposure and was going to extreme measures to remain hidden. My mind was tormented with demonic thoughts of hopelessness, failure and complete inadequacy. I was buying into the devil’s lies and had succumbed to his seductions by desiring never to complete this book you are now reading. The very subject on which I was writing—the seductions of the enemy—made a U-turn and came back to seduce me into breaking a vow I had made to the Lord: a vow of obedience. Yet this present challenge made me want to run away like Elijah and find a cave. For weeks I had suffered from insomnia due to nightmares. Each revelation was met by demonic resistance. I was physically drained from penning my thoughts. I questioned my purpose, my calling and my ability. On this particular night, I felt totally defeated in my futile attempts to expose another plan of the devil. I begged God to release me from the assignment.

When Jacob’s wrestling match ended, God blessed him and changed his name from Jacob, the supplanter, to Israel, prince of God. When mine ended, I did not necessarily receive a name change, but I did receive an answer. The Lord said, The book needs writing because the devil needs exposing. That was it. No great blessing. No words such as, Thank you so much for trying. You are off the hook. I will use someone else.

But then another part of the answer came. I fell asleep and had a dream that empowered me with a fresh determination to rise up and fulfill my commission.

The Dream of Hell

I walked through a pitch-black corridor. Where am I? I was straining to see. Although I was holding a candle to light my path, I could barely see my hand in front of my face. Fearful I would bump into a wall, I held the light as far forward as I could. The walls seemed to be made of mud and filth, appearing so unclean that I determined to stay clear of them. It seemed I was making my way through an underground sewer, and the pathway was so twisted and narrow that I could barely get through.

Suddenly a most gruesome face darted past me. When the grotesque creature saw the light, it headed into greater darkness. The light seemed to torment this devilish being. Then I knew. Oh, my Lord! I am in hell!

I inched along even more slowly. God, I don’t really want to see another one of those. . . . Two more totally horrifying faces sped by me, not wanting the light to touch them. I could hear them shivering in fear that I would shine light upon them. This was the end of my dream.

Demons Do Not Want to Be Exposed!

I jolted from the bed. I had seen hell for only a fleeting moment of time, and I can tell you this: I have no desire ever to go there again, even in another dream. Instantly I was aware that the Lord had answered my pleas. He had given me an important dream that revealed to me the evil forces that did not want
