    Chapter 1

Jokim awoke with a start, something was different, no! something was wrong, very wrong, in seconds he was dressed and running through to the balcony overlooking the caldera, it was still dark, Clarrisia appeared next to him, without waiting he grabbed her hand, visualised Aria's lair and they both vanished reappearing inside the lair.

A shimmering golden wall shielded Aria's sleeping area, I have lost contact with her, he said as Norton landed at the entrance, Jokim could hear the roar of voices in his head as the red warrior dragons took up defensive positions, every dragon was awake, even the ranging patrols were being recalled.

The couple were about to run towards the shield when Norton said stop, I have seen this before, Jokim she has travelled in time, this same shield comes up each time you go forward or back in time but this time she has gone alone, this is not a good omen.

Jokim dropped to his knees as feelings of desolation washed over him, he had never been without the connection to his Queen before, Princess Garnet arrived at the entrance of the lair, her rider Jonas appeared next to Jokim, Clarrisia and Jonas helped Jokim stand up.

Prince Sapphire landed in front of Norton, his rider Elena joined the other three in the lair, our Queen Aria is approaching her time Jokim, she is putting things in order, she will return soon, she said quietly, Clarrisia glared at Elena, how do you know this when the elite guard do not, she said, obviously annoyed.

Our patrol was at the kingdoms outer shield, it has shrunk by a few inches, I reported this to our Queen and felt the call to put things in order, feel the magic, it is almost imperceptible but it is weakening, Jokim pulled himself together, you are correct, the field is weakening very slowly, he said.

Movement caught their eye, tendrils of golden mist were erupting from the shield, searching, Jokim walked towards them, as he came within reach his golden suit started to glow brightly, the tendrils wrapped themselves around him encasing him in a cloud of golden light.

As the shield expanded Jokim said, we are connected, clear the quarters but stay close, the three riders mounted their dragons and left but hovered closely outside the lair.

The shield continued to expand until the lair was completely sealed from the outside world, it's good to be connected again Aria but you might have warned me, said Jokim hesitantly, Jokim my friend and rider, we have been connected since our birth, over one hundred thousand years ago, this was one trip you could not make because it exceeded your life cycle, please understand that we can travel back in time as far as we wish but you cannot travel to a future beyond your death, she said with concern in her voice.

Jokim, I must prepare you for the approaching time when my physical body is no longer with you, as the first Golden Queen, when I die my body will ascend to the sky and become this worlds second sun, my spirit will live on until that sun burns out, this will take many hundreds of thousands of years.

I believe that I will be able to speak with you at times but this remains to be tested, once I die, your body will start to age normally, you must prepare for this and the loss of dragon magic which is already retreating to it's safe place, Aria paused feeling Jokim's sadness.

We are not yet separated Jokim, we have much work to do yet but the time is approaching, her voice was soothing to her troubled rider.

Jokim felt the floor beneath his feet shake, it continued to shake, he looked at Aria, fear not Jokim, the mountains are growing with the assistance of the earth magic, the caldera will become a cavern, as the mountains join together the cavern will extend to the north and south, you will seal the southern end as soon as it is completed but the northern end will be sealed by Princess Garnet after the war is over.

No do not ask yet, all will become clear, she said as Jokim opened his mouth, come Jokim, we must leave to allow the earth magic to work, the shield vanished and they joined the others hovering outside the lair.

Aria gave instruction for the caldera to be evacuated except for the hatchery, four green dragons would remain there, all others were to take ranging patrols until told they could return, Jokim noticed that the mountain was already closing over the top of the caldera.

Aria and the Elite Guard were the last to leave the caldera and headed south, after flying for about five miles Aria circled then landed in a small clearing between the mountains, Aria looked around, this will do, she said, Jokim smiled, do for what, it's hardly big enough for the Elite Guard and us, Aria turned and looked at Jokim, you have to believe Jokim, this is where all the riders will come when they loose their dragons, but I will make some alterations.

The valley of the riders, sounds good, said Jokim, Aria sent out a wave of combined magic, mountains started moving away from the dragons, as they moved they grew higher, after about three hours they stopped moving, Aria was pleased, the valley was now fifty miles wide and one hundred miles long.

I see a slight problem my Queen, Jokim smiled, there is no way in or out of the valley, Aria seemed
