    Evelyn Lyons was a talented poet who had a tragic life and died of cancer at the age of 58. These letters to God were written in the last year of her life as she was suffering the ravages of her illness while also trying to cope with a range of family and financial problems. Each letter was written on a small piece of paper folded and placed in a box – similar to the prayers written and placed in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
    The letters convey her fear, loneliness and despair – but also her indomitable faith, gratitude to God and hope for the future. It is the hope of the family that they can offer some inspiration to readers undergoing similar challenges in their lives.

      Evelyn Lyons was a talented poet who had a tragic life and died of cancer at the age of 58. These letters to God were written in the last year of her life as she was suffering the ravages of her illness while also trying to cope with a range of family and financial problems. Each letter was written on a small piece of paper folded and placed in a box – similar to the prayers written and placed in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.

      The letters convey her fear, loneliness and despair – but also her indomitable faith, gratitude to God and hope for the future. It is the hope of the family that they can offer some inspiration to readers undergoing similar challenges in their lives.

      Feb 25/96

      Dear God,

      Hear my prayers. Help me to keep faith in thee and let me feel your presence by my side. Even with husband, children and family and friends I often feel so alone and afraid of what my future holds. Help me not to fear and to know you are with me.

      Lord, help me and my family in their quest for securing their financial futures. Help me find work and help Marvin and my sons to succeed in earning for our needs.

      Lord, keep sickness away from me. Help my body to heal and give me life to enjoy. Help us all and guide us in the path that will lead to the fulfillment of our hopes and dreams.

      Lord, let me live in good health, to prosper, and to grow old in security and contentment.

      Amen
