Chapter 1
Bang! The loud gunshot shattered the thick glass window as a young man fell to his death. The bullet had penetrated through 30 year-old Christian’s skull, killing him instantly. A pool of blood covered the white tiled floor by the front door.
Chicago police officers flocked to the scene an hour after the October 31st night murder, only to discover another heartbreaking fatality.
No! He can’t be gon, he can’t,
the mother of his two boys wailed over the yellow crime scene tape.
The slender African American woman’s wails turned into high pitched shrieks, as multiple police cars’ emergency lights flooded the scene.
Despite the moment the gunshot hit Christian, the night had been eerily quiet. Children went from door to door requesting candy from neighbors, and even the police had arrived without using their sirens.
The shot, her wails, the lights and the crime scene tape were the only signs that a horrific murder had taken place that night.
Two tall and stocky white male paramedics brought the lifeless body of Christian from the house on a stretcher with a purple blanket covering him from head to toe. Their expressions were somber as they hoisted him into the back of their ambulance.
The brutal murder took place on the rowdy street named Neewollah. The street earned its name from the backward spelling of Halloween. Just like its namesake, one of the most violent crimes of the year happened on Halloween night.
The dark street was lined with classic homes built around the turn of the 20th century. Some even resembled castles with their stone exterior and Gothic architecture. The end of the street was closed off by a Cul De Sac.
The house adjacent to the homicide scene lived a young lady named Kris Purse. The 24 year-old caramel colored girl with short, curly brown hair resided alone in her one bedroom apartment on the first floor.
Kris watched the aftermath scene in horror from her living room window. The tall chubby girl dressed in a black robe and fuzzy slippers of the same color was frozen in place at the scene unfolding in front
