About this ebook

The secrets of more than 200 successful CEOs revealed

In Quick and Nimble, Adam Bryant distills the wisdom of more than 200 CEOs, offering business leaders the tools to sustain a thriving company in this challenging global economy. Through his regular “Corner Office” feature in the New York Times, Bryant has identified the biggest drivers of corporate success, which he brings to life with practical examples.

These leaders—including Jeff Weiner of LinkedIn, Tony Hsieh of Zappos, Angie Hicks of Angie’s List and Steve Case of Revolution (and formerly AOL)—share their strategies for building a high-performing organization that unleashes the passion and energy of its employees. As the world shifts to a knowledge-based economy, the winners will be companies that can attract and retain the best employees by encouraging them to grow, contribute and feel rewarded. Quick and Nimble offers a road map to bring success and energy to any organization.

‘Bryant’s gift for asking incisive questions of remarkable people, and translating their insights into crisp and lucid prose, makes for joyful reading indeed—smart, provocative, and immensely useful!’ —Jim Collins, author of Good to Great and co-author of Great by Choice

‘Adam Bryant identifies the most important challenge facing business leaders today: how to achieve innovation at scale by building a culture that will marry the energy of a startup with the discipline of a veteran organization.’ —Eric Ries, bestselling author of The Lean Startup

Overall great business book about keeping organizations nimble, innovative, and forward thinking. While there's nothing earth-shattering in the content, the style of delivery is very engaging. The author presents the themes as interview snippets and it makes the themes come alive. It's much more engaging to hear the CEO of a company speak directly about having difficult conversations with staff than it is to read third hand accounts of that, or academic language about that. All in all, a quick read that is easily digested, and a good reminder for managers as to how to stave off complacency and inertia in their company.

I received an ARC through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program, and quickly dove into this text. I really appreciate the topical approach, with a variety of real-world examples to illustrate the principles in play. With a variety of what amounts to miniature case studies, Bryant does an excellent job of defining the principle, discussing its implementation in existing companies, and providing suggestions for the reader to utilize it in his or her own organization. While this isn't necessarily ground-breaking, it is an effective treatment with some fresh perspective on good ideas.

I got a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway in return for a honest review.

While I find that there is a lot of information regarding start-ups I found it difficult to apply to a small business. If you are looking to start a larger company and have no management classes under your belt, this book would be great.

Adam Bryant interviews hundreds of CEO's from Jeff Weiner to Mario Batali. These interviews give excellent advice on how to create effective culture in the organization. This is a book that would be valuable for leaders from small business owners to CEO's to read and reread.
