About this ebook
Think Christianity is for you? Wondering where to start with things like the Bible, prayer, church? Then you are who this short 4 part course booklet was written for. It covers the basic fundamentals of the faith and what it means to become a Christian. We then explore how our relationship with God grows through the Bible and prayer, and discuss the problems we may encounter. Then of course there's the matter of being part of a church. It may be all new to you, but help is at hand. Part of the Epistole Bible Study Series, by the late Dr David L Cook, it's designed for self study with the help of a mentor/leader if possible.
Dr David L Cook
Dr David L Cook ( 1932 - 2013) was a highly experienced Scottish educationalist and Bible teacher. He worked in education all his life, first as a classics teacher, and then secondary school headmaster. He studied the Bible continually throughout his life, and was familiar with NT Greek and also Hebrew. As well as his MA in the classics, he obtained both a BD and a PhD in Theology. From a young man until his late 70s, he travelled all over Scotland, and beyond, preaching and teaching, mainly in Brethren churches. He wrote several Bible Study booklets, which he had hoped to revise and make available, but he passed away before that work was completed. His family have completed that work and the studies are now available as the Epistole Bible Study Series.

First Steps For Disciples
-----
A Simple Basic Course
For Anyone Wishing To Set Out On The
Path Of Christian Discipleship
If you have never done anything like this before, don’t worry! You will be able to cope with it.
If you feel you don’t know very much about Christianity or the Bible or the Church, have no fear! This course has not been compiled for experts. It is for beginners and it is about first steps.
If you can discuss the material in a group or with a more experienced Christian, so much the better. The references throughout it to your course leader assume you have such an opportunity.
I invite you to approach it with an open mind and be ready to learn. Stick at it, for it will be well worthwhile. Here goes then!
May God himself
bless you and guide you
in these first steps for disciples!
About This Booklet
It is assumed throughout these pages that you have regular contact with your course leader.
There is no time frame for the completion of the course. The pace is determined by several variables - how much time you can devote to working through it, how familiar or unfamiliar you are with the ideas it presents; how often you can work at it on your own and how often you can meet with your leader for help and discussion.
The whole is divided into four main parts. Each part has a number of sections. You may want to go over a section more than once and discuss its content. At the end of a unit there is section with the heading Thinking It Over. Make sure you allow time for this, because it will help you to get to grips with the main points you have just covered. Each of the main parts concludes with a short summary.
