    In Spanien, generell gesagt in ganz Europa, kann man beides verbinden: mit einem Erasmus-Stipendium.

    In Spain - generally speaking, in all of Europe - you can combine the two things: with an Erasmus scholarship.

    Erasmus-Stipendien werden von Europa, der Europäischen Union, an europäische Studenten aller Länder vergeben.

    Erasmus scholarships are awarded by Europe, the European Union, to students from all countries.

    Diese Stipendien geben dir einen Studienplatz an einer anderen europäischen Universität und einen kleinen monatlichen Zuschuss, damit du in einem anderen Land studieren kannst, eine Mobilitätshilfe.

    These scholarships give you a university place in another European university and a small monthly grant so that you can study in another country, a mobility aid.

    Außerdem kann jedes Land seinen Studenten mehr oder weniger Hilfe zahlen, das kommt ganz auf die Möglichkeiten eines jeden Landes an.

    Moreover, each country can pay more or less aids to its students, it depends on each state's possibilities.

    Die Arbeit in Krankenhäusern ist besonders schwierig, sowohl für Ärzte als auch für Krankenschwestern und -pfleger.

    Working in hospitals is quite hard, both for doctors and nurses.

    Letztes Jahr konnte ich an einem Erasmus-Stipendium teilnehmen.

    Last year I had the chance to take part in an Erasmus scholarship.

    Zu Beginn wollte ich nach Frankreich fahren.

    At first I wanted to go to France.

    Warum? Naja, ich lebe mit meiner Familie in einem Ort in der Nähe von Barcelona, Frankreich ist nicht weit weg.

    Why? Well, I live with my family in a place near Barcelona, France is not far away.

    Außerdem ist die Sprache dem Spanischen ähnlich und dem Katalonischen noch ähnlicher, welches ich auch spreche.

    Besides this, the language is similar to Spanish and even more similar to Catalan, which I also speak.

    Nachdem ich mich für das Stipendium angemeldet und die Sprachprüfungen gemacht hatte (Englisch, Französisch...), musste ich einige Monate warten.

    After applying for the scholarship and doing the language tests (English, French...) I had to wait for some months.

    Wie lang sich das Warten machte! Ich begann, Bücher auf Französisch zu kaufen, hörte französische Musik und auch französisches Radio.

    It was such a long wait! I started to buy books in French, I listened to French music and also to the French radio.

    Endlich kam der Tag der Ergebnisse. Diese wurden im Foyer der Uni ausgehangen.

    The results' day finally came. They were put up in the university's foyer.

    Ich suchte meinen Namen unter den Studenten, die einen Erasmusplatz für Frankreich erhalten hatten und war nicht dabei.

    I looked for my name among the students who had received an Erasmus place for France, and I wasn't there.

    Das war ein tiefer Schlag für mich! Ich war weder unter den Stipendiaten, noch unter den Ersatzstipendiaten...

    That was a serious blow for me! I was neither among those who had received a scholarship, nor among the substitutes...

    Seltsam... Ich schaute mir die Listen noch eine Weile an und dann sah ich es: ich hatte ein Stipendium für Deutschland bekommen.

    Weird... I looked at the lists once more and then I saw it: I had received a scholarship for Germany.

    Deutschland!? Was soll ich denn da?, dachte ich sofort.

    Germany?! What should I do there?, I thought immediately.

    Ich ging ins Sekretariat, um mit den Verantwortlichen zu sprechen, und es gab keinen Zweifel: niemand hatte sich für Deutschland beworben und nach Punkten war es das Einzige, was sie mir geben konnten.

    I went to the administrative office to speak to the manager and there was no doubt: nobody had applied for Germany and, on the basis of points, it was the only one they could give me.

    Wenn ich nicht annahm, würde ich wahrscheinlich kein Erasmus-Stipendium bekommen, mit all den Chancen, die mit Erasmus verbunden waren.

    If I didn't accept, I would probably get no Erasmus scholarship, with all the opportunities which were related to it.

    Zu Hause machten mir meine Eltern und Geschwister Mut, weiter zu machen.

    Once at home, my parents and sister encouraged me to go on.

    Deutschland sei ein wirtschaftlich starkes Land, zwar mit einer schwierigen Sprache, aber sicherlich würde ich dort viel lernen können.

    Germany was an economically strong country, perhaps with a difficult language, but I would surely have the chance to learn a lot there.

    Von daher flog ich nach jenem Sommer nach Berlin, um mein Studienjahr in Deutschland zu beginnen.

    So after that summer I flew to Berlin to start my academic year in Germany.

    Es half mir sehr, dass meine deutschen Kommilitonen die Vorlesungen und Kurse auf Englisch machten.

    The fact that my colleagues attended lessons and courses in English helped me a lot.

    Die ersten Wochen waren sehr hart für mich.

    The first weeks were really tough for me.

    Ich verstand die Leute auf der Straße nicht, die Kommilitonen auch nicht und die Tage wurden immer kürzer.

    I didn't understand neither the people on the street nor my colleagues and the days got shorter and shorter.

    Aber bald kam ein Moment, der mein Leben veränderte: das Oktoberfest oder das deutsche Bierfest, wie wir es in Spanien nennen.

    But soon came a moment which changed my life: the Oktoberfest, or the German beer festival, as we call it in Spain.

    Das ist ein großes Fest, was üblicherweise in München, im Süden Deutschlands, gefeiert wird und einem der Hauptprodukte Deutschlands alle Ehre macht: dem Bier.

    It's a big festival which usually takes place in Munich, in the south of Germany and pays homage to one of Germany's main products: beer.

    Ein sehr sympathisches Mädchen aus meinem Kurs lud mich ein, mit ihr und ihren Freunden nach München zu reisen und das Fest und die Stimmung dort zu erleben, und ich entschied mich dazu, ihre Einladung anzunehmen.
