He said to them,
Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."
~ Mark 16:15
Today is the first Monday of the New Year, and consequently, the first devotion of Mondays with Jesus 2015. In planning this book, I didn’t hesitate deciding which day of the week readers would best benefit from a weekly devotion. This probably won’t surprise you, but in a recent poll, the majority of individuals identified Monday as their least favorite day of the week. And statistics prove more heart attacks occur on Monday mornings than any other time in the week.
Why? Doctors believe stress to be the primary factor of Monday’s ailments. When faced with a new week to conquer, we see the task as daunting. Dismal. Unappealing. But why not look at Monday as yet another positive term for something full of potential? Exhilarating. Fresh. Pristine. See Monday as a thrilling chance to start a brand new week with the goal of bringing Jesus to everyone you meet in the world.
Recently, I heard Sunday described as, the pep rally that fires us up and prepares us for the game that begins on Monday.
Are you familiar with pep rallies? I grew up attending the hour of cheering and clapping, yelling and jumping, every Friday afternoon before that evening’s football game. Those pep rallies fired up the team and the fans, leaving us excited and eager to take on anything the opponents offered. And I loved that Sunday pep rally analogy and thought...let’s start each Monday with a devotional that latches on to Sunday’s pep rally and pumps us up for the week to come. This is a brand new year, a year God has given us that is full of endless possibilities. Let’s begin it with the purpose of having an ongoing winning season, where each week our ultimate goal is spreading God’s Word.
This Week: When asked, How are you?
don’t just answer with the traditional, I’m fine.
Tell the truth: I’m blessed!

If you can?
said Jesus. Everything is possible for one who believes.
~ Mark 9:23
While I love having family nearby (my parents and my oldest son both live within a mile of our house), having family in other areas of the country also has advantages, particularly for providing the opportunity to meet people that we might otherwise have never met.
My husband is from Baton Rouge, and some members of his family still live in Louisiana. Consequently we have made several close friends during our visits to Cajun country. One stands out from the rest, and during our visits to Louisiana when our children were young they’d always ask, Are we going to see Mr. Dean?
My father-in-law (Papa Z) met Dean Navarre in the early nineties, and they quickly became friends. Dean went fishing with Papa Z. They played cards. They started a chapter of the Lions Club in Louisiana. All of those things might seem like normal occurrences between friends, but there was a major difference...
Mr. Dean was born with no arms.
Rene and Kaleb were always amazed to watch Mr. Dean drive with his feet, play cards so skillfully that you would forget he was using toes instead of fingers and bait a hook as well as the best of fishermen.
But Mr. Dean never saw himself as having a disability; in fact, he used his situation to help others. As I mentioned above, he and my father-in-law started a chapter of the Lions Club. Mr. Dean was one of the first to ever attend the Louisiana Lions Camp, which is for youth with special needs and free of charge, in 1958. And he didn’t forget the organization that helped him growing up, nor did he see any reason he couldn’t help other children with unique physical circumstances. And in 2011, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the most prestigious honor given by the Lions Club for lifetime achievement and humanitarian work.
I have no doubt that some with Mr. Dean’s circumstances would have seen their situation as discouraging, but he saw it as an opportunity to trust in God, to help His children and to show everyone he meets that all things are truly possible with Christ.
This Week: Think of something you believe impossible. Turn it over to Christ. And if you want to see Mr. Dean in action (as in fishing and woodworking...with his feet), you can view a video on my Facebook page today: www.facebook.com/AuthorReneeAndrews .

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. ~ 1 John 4:9
As a teenager and in his early twenties, my husband had a ‘65 Mustang. It was white with a red stripe down each side and undeniably eye-catching. I met him when he was a senior in college. At the time, I didn’t know who drove that cool car I’d seen every now and then on campus, but I learned that it was his baby
when he picked me up for our first date. He loved that car. In fact, he spent almost as much time tinkering on that vehicle as he spent with me back then.
After a year of dating, my sweet Cajun proposed. Neither of us had any money at the time. In fact, like most young couples, we had more debt than anything else. And my future husband sold his prized possession, his beautiful Mustang, to pay for my engagement ring.
Have you ever witnessed that? You see if often in movies or read about it in books, and every now and then, you witness it in life, when someone selflessly gives what they value most for someone they love. It’s a touching and beautiful thing, particularly if that person is giving something up...for you.
But the truth is, we have already received the most treasured gift, the most amazing sacrifice of all. What God gave, His most prized possession—the most prized possession—His Son. Oh, how my heart is pierced to know that Christ went to the cross
