About this ebook

Chase, CEO and owner of Phillips Innovations cannot get past the guilt ot losing his wife in a deadly car crash. His company has become his sole interest in life. He is not happy when he has to replace a trusted design engineer, and even less so, when the applicant for the job is an attractive woman.   K.C. Grainger purposely goes by her initials rather than her given name Kyra. She knows it's an uphill fight to gain recognition in a male dominated work environment, but her career is now her main focus after her recent breakup with the man she hoped to marry. When Chase and Kyra meet there is a moment in time when the world seems to stop turning. Neither dares to acknowledge that unique experience and a shake-up within the company threatens to sever that tentative link before it has a chance to come together.

Kidnapping..check.  White slave trading...check.  Murder...check. Mystery...Check. Suspense...Check. Sex....check check. This book was a great read. It had a little of everything. It kept me on the edge of my seat, I had to keep reading it to find out what would happen next.  All I can say is I want a computer room like Jack has.  Wait, I want a room like Jack has filled with Ms. Katros books.  I hope there will be another book in this series! I really enjoyed this book by Heide Katros. In my opinion, she could give any other good romance writer a run for their money. This book kept me in suspense throughout. At times, I had tears in my eyes, and other times I was laughing. It was just a well-written book that I really enjoyed. It had true love that would last a lifetime and heartbreak that made you want to cry and of course, there always has to be a villain. I do believe this was the first of her books I've read, but I do intend to see what else she has to offer. 4 Angels from Fallen Angel, reviewed by Dee

    Chapter One

    Orlando, Florida

Chase Phillips stepped off the plane, slightly exhausted after the long international flight, despite flying first class and the convenience of being able to kick back comfortably. A wry grin edged up the corners of his mouth, when he thought back over the past three days, spent in whirlwind meetings. He could only marvel how the Japanese managed to get so much done without sacrificing good manners and tradition. He enjoyed dealing with Mr. Isao Osaka. The man was a hard-nosed negotiator, yet scrupulously fair.

Chase took his place in line after several other first class passengers that had a pass to be expedited through customs. Money couldn’t buy happiness, but it could buy convenience. Since he was only gone for a long weekend he’d been able to carry his luggage on board. He preferred that, because it made it a snap to get checked through customs. He approached the passport check and after his passport was scanned and stamped the officer allowed him to pass.

Rolling his carry-on behind him, his gaze traveled over the waiting crowd. The babble of happy voices, the fact that it was mostly all in English washed over him like warm water. Within moments he discovered his secretary, Hannah Davis, standing off to herself. The wave of her hand told him that she’d already spied him.

As he approached, she walked toward him, a welcoming smile on her lips. Hannah adored her boss. She was his senior by some twenty-five years, though she kept herself in shape and didn’t look a day over forty-five. Her spiked blond coif suited her as well as the short form fitting skirts she wore, sometimes in outlandish colors, but no one could fault Hannah, since she pulled it off with aplomb.

Have a good flight, boss? she asked as she fell into step beside him.

It was pleasant enough. Couldn’t sleep much because I was so hyped up over the deal I made with Mr. Osaka. It didn’t take much to sell him on the self sealing hose connector. His order should hit our computer within the day. How did things go in my absence?

Hannah grinned up at him. She might be a leggy five feet five, two inches more if she wore platform shoes, but her boss stood a head taller and she was always forced to look up. Not that she minded. Chase was handsome to a fault. He carried himself with a military bearing and she knew that his ABS were ripped thanks to a daily routine at the gym. He wore his hair in a wind blown cut that cost a mint, but it flattered him as well as his tailored business suits did. And she just loved that gray pin striped suit he wore over a starched white shirt that showed none of the wear of the past twenty hours. Of course, he could have changed into a fresh one along the way. He certainly didn’t smell as if he’d traveled halfway across the world either.

We didn’t miss a beat, sir. Phillips Innovations still stands in all its glory despite being located north of the Amway Center, she said glibly. Guess it doesn’t really make a difference if they play basketball or hold concerts there. The visitors rarely travel as far as our plant.

They’d reached the main terminal and Hannah led the way to the elevators. The parking lots aren’t as crowded as they used to be. A lot of people use the Park and Fly places, but with you it would be senseless, since we are less than twenty minutes from the airport. I don’t mind picking you up. It gives us a chance to have some private time to talk.

When the elevator opened to the level she’d parked on, she pressed the remote on her key to locate her car. Chase saw the brake lights of her sporty red Mustang convertible light up briefly. How do you like your new ride?

She cocked her head at him. What do you think? Do you think an old lady like me can’t enjoy a convertible? I love to let the wind blow through my hair.

He chuckled. Not much to blow through is there, considering you keep it so short. And you certainly don’t fit the description of old lady.

She harrumphed as she clicked the trunk open and he deposited his luggage before he folded his legs into the passenger seat. Buckling himself in, he remarked how good it was to be home again. You don’t appreciate Florida until you’ve been away. It might be muggy at times, but the air is clean and there is no industrial haze to keep you from seeing the stars at night.

For a moment Hannah was all business as she backed the car out of the parking spot. But as she shifted gears, she stared at him in wonder. Wow! That sounded profound. Since when do you take the time to watch the stars at night?

They exchanged a meaningful glance. Hannah knew how he still hurt after losing his wife in a senseless accident. He never spoke of it, and maybe that was the reason why the pain stayed with him. Blame had been heaped on him from all sides, but none could top the self imposed guilt that followed him on a daily basis. By the blank look in his eyes she could tell that it spooked around his mind right this moment, so she gave him time to collect himself.

Chase’s wife Deirde had been the product of overindulgent parents. She had gotten away with reckless driving and even worse behavior all her life—until it caught up with her.

Deirde had been in a snit that afternoon, because Chase had confronted her about her uncontrolled spending. She in turn countered with calling him filthy names, grabbed her purse and rushed out the door, but not before she’d yelled, Go to hell! Those were the last words he ever heard out of Deirdre’s mouth.

The Highway patrolman who came to Chase’s door less than an hour later was a young kid barely out of the police academy. His eyes gave away the situation before he even formulated the word informing Chase of his wife’s fatal accident.

It had been a one car accident along one of the many frontage roads paralleling the I-4 interstate. Deirdre had been speeding and lost control of her BMW convertible. Apparently, she had fought to counter steer, but in the end the car sideswiped the support column of the overhead bridge with such force that it snapped her neck. Death had been instantaneous.

Chase would never forget the vituperations he had to endure that night, when he went to inform her parents in person. They called him everything from charlatan to wife abuser and they never forgave him for losing their only child.

Chase knew he should forgive himself, but to this day he hadn’t been able to shake the guilt. If he had only....

Cutting Hannah a sideways glance, aware that she had read his thoughts, he chose to ignore that and went on with, "Well, I
