Zeke Meeks vs the Annoying Princess Sing-Along - D.L. Green

    Cover

Ugh! My little sister was watching the Princess Sing-Along TV show.

I usually love TV. I’ll watch almost anything — especially shows that are funny, silly, strange, scary, or gross. But I can’t stand Princess Sing-Along. It’s a show for little girls. It stars an annoying pretend princess who sings awful songs in a screechy voice.

I had just gotten home from school and wanted to relax on the couch. But my sister Mia was dancing in front of the TV with a Princess Sing-Along doll. She was singing along to the TV show. It was extremely annoying. Mia and the TV princess screeched, Who sings super songs, la la la? Who knows right from wrong, la la la? Who is smart and strong, la la la? Princess Sing-Along, la la la.

It was not very relaxing. I pressed my hands over my ears and started walking away.

    Zeke, Zeke, Zeke! Mia shouted.

I turned around and took my hands off my ears. What?

Listen to this. It’s super. Mia pointed to the TV. She and Princess Sing-Along screeched, Brush your teeth each day and night, la la la. Or they’ll look like a brown fright, la la la.

Mia was right. The song was super — super awful.

Luckily, a commercial came on. Mia said, Don’t you just love, love, love Princess Sing-Along?

No. I don’t love, love, love her. I don’t even love her. I don’t even like her, I said.

I was talking to my doll. Mia pointed to the Princess Sing-Along doll on her lap. Then she stuck out her tongue at me. I wasn’t talking to you, silly.

"You think I’m silly? I asked Mia. You’re the one who’s talking to a doll. Dolls aren’t real. They can’t hear your question or tell you their answer."

Mia pressed its stomach. The doll sang in a screechy voice, Keep your bedroom nice and clean, la la la. It should be fit for a queen, la la la. Queens don’t like dirt and decay, la la la. So throw your gross stuff away, la la la.

Your doll didn’t answer your question. You asked her whether she loves Princess Sing-Along, I said.

"That wasn’t the question. I asked her if she loved, loved, loved Princess Sing-Along. Three loves, not one," Mia said.

I rolled my eyes. It’s pretty silly to ask a Princess Sing-Along doll whether she loves Princess Sing-Along. Of course she does.

So you do think she’s real, after all, Mia said.

Mia was driving me crazy. I walked out of the house to get away from her.

My older sister, Alexa, sat on a lounge chair in the backyard. She wore headphones attached to a music player. She
