Casting off Restraint - D. R. Hinton

Introduction:
The year: 1962
March 7-- England’s Beatles
made their broadcasting debut on BBC radio.
April 15 -- U.S. national debt rose above $300 billion.
June 25 -- U.S. Supreme Court rules prayer in schools unconstitutional.
July 10 -- My birth date....
As you can see by the timeline above, I was not alive to protest the three events that happened in 1962 that were major catalysts for the moral, financial, and spiritual depravity that exists in our world today. And seriously, if my parents would have known in 1962 the impact of these events upon today’s culture, I’m sure they would have done all they could to prevent the increasing immorality of my generation and their grandchildren’s generation of today. But that is how the slippery slope to destruction often happens: no sharp turns or sudden stops.
March 7, 1962: The ‘Beatles’ created an excitement and then a frantic frenzy amid the youth in the UK with songs like Love me do
and P.S.: I Love You
airing on British radio. That hysteria quickly spread across the Atlantic to the USA within months. No one knew how much impact this pandemic popularity would have on our world’s culture for decades to come. Even if they did, would they have had the courage or the foresight to try to stop this modern-day idolatry rave that monopolized the worship of a large part of the civilized world?
By the March 4, 1966, John Lennon proudly proclaimed that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
Though the religious community strongly rejected this ‘blasphemous’ statement, Lennon was probably recognizing the lack of excitement in the dwindling churches of England of that time compared to the thrill of being part of the mass crowds of their followers. Sadly, this idolatry quickly spread to the states.
By the summer of ’69, half a million hippies, Beatniks and flower children gathered on a farm in Bethel, New York to find temporary satisfaction for their void of God in three days of unhindered sex, drugs and Rock and Roll. The event was known as ‘The Woodstock Festival’.
As the country was in the middle of a very unpopular Vietnam War, one motto of this rebellious hippie generation was ‘Make love, not war!’ This sexual revolution was free-spirited and not faithful to one partner, which eventually helped to more than double the number of divorces in our country. The number of people living together without marrying has also skyrocketed because of this mentality.
Many of these ‘free spirits’ soon ran out of money, and had to find work to support this new lifestyle, as the government wasn’t near as generous as it is today. Some went on to college and became the teachers and professors for my children’s generation, and accelerated the moral landslide we are experiencing today. At least 9 out of 10 professors in many of today’s public colleges and universities are free-spirited progressive liberals. Many of these schools like Harvard, Yale and Princeton were originally Christian ministry training facilities that required Bible study and translation of the scriptures from the original Hebrew and Greek. Today’s liberal administrations in the same schools insist on strict ‘separation of church and state.’
Music has inspired and entertained humanity for thousands of years. Its performers were applauded for the appreciation of their ability or the beauty of their performance. Since before the creation of man, the archangel Lucifer (Satan) craved the worship that belonged only to God. That is what caused his banishment from heaven. If he had yielded to the sovereign rule of God, he would still be in heaven today. His pride destroyed his future, which is the origin of the saying Pride goes before a fall
. What a fall that was.
Over 6000 years later, the ‘Rock-n-Roll’ performers of the 60’s transformed the applause of their audience into unreserved worship accompanied by upraised hands and screams of adoration. These ‘stars’ were unknowingly instruments used by Satan to take the focus of their worship away from God.
This seemingly innocent craze gradually claimed more and more of the hearts of our youth through four decades to the point we came to in 2002 when the hit show American Idol
was boldly auditioning hundreds of thousands of young people across the nation who wanted to experience the praise and admiration of the world by being judged as America’s best singer. The bold title of the show revealed the blatant disregard of the laws of God, specifically the 2nd of the 10 commandments, which forbids having other gods or idols to worship instead of Jehovah God. Because of the show’s instant popularity, TV moguls in other countries quickly produced similar programs to entice the youth of their region to join in this unashamed idol worship to make it a world-wide phenomenon.
04/15/62 – Though $300 billion seems like a pittance compared to the over $17 trillion debt today, it was very frightening to the older adults of the early 60’s who could remember the hardships caused by the failed banks of the Depression era sandwiched between our involvement in two world wars. Each U.S. citizen would have had to pay about $1500 each to pay off this ‘monstrous’ debt. Today the per capita debt for every man, woman and child in the country is over $53,000 and growing fast.
The country’s ‘In God We Trust’ motto that was derived from scripture gradually became an empty slogan because of man-made social security and entitlements. The Jehovah-Jireh (the Lord who provides) was forgotten, and the people started calling on the government when help was needed. Trusting in anything or anyone else other than the one true God is also a form of idol worship, which was strictly forbidden and severely punished in the Law of God.
With the costly global War on Terror
since the attacks of 2001, multiplied by the ever-increasing wasteful spending and the mounting costs of national health care, the debt has grown exponentially over the last decade to a point where most economists say the debt is unsustainable and we are quickly heading to financial collapse.
When Barrack Obama campaigned for President in ‘07, he railed against President George W. Bush’s financial policies and increased debt as ‘reckless’ and ‘unpatriotic’. Since he has been become president in ‘08, his administration has almost doubled the debt accumulated from all the presidents before him combined. This is hypocritical. He said what he had to say for votes, but is another big-spending fiscal liberal in practice. If his book Dreams from my Father
reveals the motivation to make our country on a level playing field with his father’s homeland in Africa, he is being very successful in his accomplishments as president. He has also made some decisions in the military, defense and energy that are quickly degrading the country as well. Watch Dinesh D’Souza’s video 2016: Obama’s America
to understand this better.
As the U.S. citizens witness the leadership of the country repeatedly raising the debt limit and spending borrowed money, many have had the ‘follow the leader" concept in how they handle their personal finances. According to the American Bankruptcy Institute, the number of personal bankruptcies has multiplied tremendously, from under 200,000 in 1960 to over 2 million in 2005.
Add to this the recent reports that China and Japan are no longer buying U.S. securities, and most other countries losing faith in the U.S. dollar as the world’s economic standard, and the formula is complete for catastrophic financial disaster. Though the hardships that will result will be a justified punishment forewarned in scripture, it will also set the stage for the global economy prophesied in scripture that will be ruled by the global government also foretold in the Bible.
