      Which one of you did this? I pointed at the wet spot on the carpet.

      Two pairs of eyes looked up at me.

      I attempted my best glare. No one’s gonna fess up?

      A whine and a wiggle.

      I pointed down the hallway. Outside.

      The two turned, barking excitedly as they rushed to the door.

      I followed Lucy and Ricky, our Australian Shepherds, and watched as they darted into the back yard, playfully growling and biting one another.

      I didn’t understand why one of them had wet the carpet. I’d only been gone a few hours. Both dogs had bladders of steel, often staying inside all day. Accidents happen though, and that was the logical answer.

      The next day, despite my best cleaning effort the day before, it happened again. What was going on?
