    Chapter 1

    Spoiled Louise

Getting out of bed, Louise cursed softly as she flung the sheet aside. She marched barefooted to the bathroom feeling as if her bladder would explode. She was feeling the effects of partying drinking too much liquor and titillating sex. She flicked on the light switch as she entered the bathroom, the noise she was making was disturbing everyone except Kobus. He could sleep like a log.

She marched back to her bedroom. She realised that she did not switch off the bathroom light. She dragged her feet feeling tired and abused by everyone. Switching off the light, she heard her mother say something negative about life. ‘That woman is forever complaining about something like an old damaged record’ she hurried back to her room thinking her mother might appear and start asking irritating questions. She was not in the mood for any form of debate.

She had a funny lingering taste in her mouth. Still standing unsure of the time but she knew that soon the sun would show up. She decided to go to the kitchen. She opened the fridge door.

Looking at the contents searching for something salty she took a packet of cold mixed meats. She sat right there chewing cold salami. She then opened the stable door looking at the sky. It appeared to be darker than usual. She was thinking it might rain sometime during the course of the day.

First rays of the morning sun were appearing over the distant horizon ushering in a brand new day. She stood there admiring nature wondering what was in store for her day. She closed the door and went back to bed. She had one wish in life, same as any other girl or woman. She wanted to have a husband and a bunch of kids.

Night progressed into early morning with a cold wind blowing gently. She covered her body feeling the morning chill. Clouds were hovering in the sky as the day progressed, forming abstract shapes imaginable yet in motion non-stop. The wind blowing over the land carried varied aroma of moisture from the nearby Fannie Botha dam.

Her phone rang she looked at the caller’s id Nicholas was on the line. She could hardly remember who that person was yet she had his details on her phone. She knew that a couple of people were pestering her the previous night wanting to keep in touch with her. Some times friends can come in handy in certain situations, life can be unpredictable, situations may change without warning thus she had countless friends

She probably gave her contact number to them all. Maybe it was the one with whom she was fooling with in the alley near the nightclub. She chose not to respond he was not good enough for her anyway. She realised that it was already raining steadily.

Rain had been falling at a steady pace during the past few days bringing much needed relief from the scorching summer heat. The dam was slowly filling up with rainwater.

The farmers in the area could have a bumper season. However, the humid atmosphere also allowed mosquitoes to thrive. Those little insects can be a menace.

Almost every household had mosquito nets fitted to keep the parasites out of the homes. Farm labourers did not enjoy the luxury of having mosquito nets. Most of the farm workers lived in mud houses with one tiny wooden window.

The miniature doors fitted could not keep the buzzing mosquitoes away. As a result, some labourers suffered from malaria fever. Some of them died and some of them survived. The white farm owners could care less. Non-white people’s lives had no value. There were too many black people around seeking work in the farms.

Farmers employed seasonal workers during the harvesting period. Most of the seasonal workers were women, young and old. The young women were old enough to work in the farming industry.

Even so, some farmers used child labour illegally and the government seemed to turn a blind eye. These workers lived in structures that seemed to be army barracks with no privacy whatsoever. Some decent people rather not change underwear for fear of exposing themselves.

There were no separating walls or curtains to afford people privacy. Men and women, young and old shared the same space. Women became vulnerable, as the men did not fail to express their lust.

However, men with tiny ding-dongs suffered humiliation by heartless men and women. Most of the men proudly displayed their dicks. Human dignity self-respect could not survive in that environment. The workers sacrificed their dignity because they needed to survive. Yet most were entertaining hatred for such white people. The sad part is that all white people became victims of hatred by most black people.

The farmers did not think that the workers required privacy as they thought of them as something less than human. Those that became lovers did it with everyone else being aware of what they were doing. Some people can behave like animals thereby confirming the white man’s theory about black people being less than human.

Shame and privacy became foreign to the workers. Respect for each other did not exist within the walls of the barracks. White folk justified the system vigorously refusing to accept the brutality of the system.

Some of the children who grew up under such conditions automatically became labourers. Farm workers did not need education thus, none thought of building schools where the children could learn to read and write. The government itself perpetuated the system of degradation.

Everyone thought education was unnecessary for black people. Education could not benefit them in any way. They were machinery, which the farmers used in any manner of their choice. Some of the lucky women became domestic servants.

Most of the farmers did not value their labourers. One of the farmers felt a tiny degree of compassion towards his labourers. Maybe he was trying to please his black mistress. He erected make shift school premises.

His wife assisted by his daughter and a few other volunteers taught the black children how to read and write based on the current curriculum. In time, his school grew to accommodate some of the children from nearby farms. Kobus registered the school with the education department.

His school provided the children an opportunity to learn how to learn selected subjects. Those that showed an ability to read and write became good learners. The farmers rewarded them by giving them lighter duties.

One such child was Daniel. No one really knew how he ended up on that farm. He had no story to tell. Nothemba, the housekeeper claimed that he was her child; no one else came forward to claim him. No one remembered seeing her being pregnant. However, no one really cared except the farmer’s daughter Louise. She was much older than he was.

She was entertaining fascinating ideas about Daniel. However, she was afraid of her mother. Some of her friends were talking about black men having huge dicks. She would love to see his dick but there was no way for her to verify the claim.

She became even more curious about him. Even though he was not the only black young man on the farm, she chose to concentrate on Daniel. Even her parents, were showing interest in him. Her younger brother was somewhat friendly with Daniel.

Whenever she was at his home, he would be somewhere on the farm doing something. That was how or when Moses began to notice that she seemed to be perpetually horny. He began testing his black magic on her wanting to see how she would react. She became a frequent visitor to his home. He was slightly older than her father was.

Moses seemed to be happy with Daniel as a son. He knew though that Nothemba was barren yet he was happy to claim Daniel as his son. They never bothered to trace his biological parents. Maybe they were afraid of losing him because they both did not have any children. He never showed any sign of being disrespectful to either of them.

Daniel grew up attending school in the morning and working the land for the rest of the day. He had no friends with whom he could play. Even if he had playmates, there was hardly any time for playing. His playing days swept by without him noticing his loss. Part of his decision making process would remain childish. He would probably remain emotionally immature for years to come. His ability to tend the soil and dedication attracted the attention of his father. He had a natural connection with the soil. His father was growing old and he sometimes could not work for long hours. Farm labourers do not retire, they toil until they fall dead.

His mother was working for the farm owner doing house chores. The family liked her for her humble nature, but Mr Kobus was already aware of something else in her of which he took advantage. He had a thing for non-white women. White women seemed to be too fussy and demanding without making an effort.

Sometimes he would fondle her when no one else was paying attention. She never once objected knowing that he would be falling into her quicksand. They used whatever chance they had to fornicate. She was somewhat proud to have a white man fucking her despite his poor performance.

Kobus knew that she was barren and he did not use condoms. He did not bother to question her about Daniel being her son. She did that to secure her job. She enjoyed his red meat plunging into her purple lips letting him sink deeper into the quicksand.

He did that for fun, he enjoyed her more that he did his wife. Nicole never allowed him to dominate her. Nothemba was submissive in every manner of the word. His tool did not know that she was not white.

One morning, the clouds became heavy with moisture denying the rays of the sun reaching the plantations. The farm workers could at least feel the relief. The clouds became darker and heavier with moisture. Daniel could tell that rain was about to fall. He could smell the humidity in the air. The women gathered their belongings and trotted to their mud dwellings and tin shacks.

The men stayed to brave the oncoming rain. Then without any further warning, the floodgates in the sky opened and the rain pelted everyone. Anyone that was outside, irrespective of his or her social standing felt the sting of the heavy raindrops. Nature operates on a higher level where everyone is equal. Everyone is a child of the universe with same expectations and aspirations.

Able men ran for cover while the weaker ones simply walked to a place of safety. By the time they reached their huts, they were soaking wet. Even as a child, Daniel witnessed the hardships of being a modern slave.

He saw older men and women suffer the humiliation of having darker skins. The older folk were suffering in silence while younger ones became rebellious and vociferous. Seasonal workers were working under similar conditions as the regular labourers, but were earning less.

He heard stories about young black girls forced to sleep with white men. He wondered if Kobus was also sleeping with black girls and women. The hypocrites were claiming to be superior or pure yet they were sleeping with so-called monkeys. What were they then?

Why then were they sleeping with black women if black people are not human? Thus, if any self-preserving, self-righteous white male dared to expose his dick to a non-white female, he would be committing a crime against himself. The same brainwashed white males could never condone any sexual relationship between a white woman and a black man. People can find a myriad of excuses to justify bad decisions and choices.

Nicole was well aware of her own status in life; she could never let any black dick into her pussy. However, she too had emotions in her system. Those emotions could easily react in a way she could never imagine possible. Would she denounce her throne or suffer silently. Kobus recognised non-white people as human beings despite all visible differences. He was another monkey with a lighter skin colour.

He did not have to pretend to be of the master race. He was at least true unto himself. His kids were aware of his beliefs about black faces and they chose to ignore their mother’s tantrums.

Daniel wondered why nature was unfair to people with dark skins. He wondered if every human being has red blood. Why was that people are so different. However, he also observed that even the vegetation was different. There are so many different species of animals. He wondered if the teacher in school was lying. He had no reason to trust the white man’s ideologies.

Some of the older people resigned themselves to their fate but his father had an undying spirit. He might have been old and fragile but his soul was that of a patriotic soldier.

He instilled a great degree of pride in his son as he grew up to be a young man. The boy even impressed Kobus and a lot many adults. Something about him was visibly different compared to other black faces.

The quality of his pride was not a pride that looks down upon other people, but it amounted to self-confidence. He knew even at that age that no one would govern his life. He had to cultivate a culture of independence within himself. He knew that he had to build a fortress, which no external forces could penetrate.

He was the last person to leave the field. He sprinted to his home to check upon his parents. Already a pot of boiling water was on the fire. They had no stove upon which to cook. They had to make the centre of the mud floor their cooking area. The hut had no furniture either but a few low benches.

His mother made him a cup of tea to warm his body. He drank the tea while his mind was thinking about his future. He did not envisage a future outside the farm. He thought he had no connection with the outside world. His world was within the farm boundaries.

Thus, he knew that he had to learn everything about farming because his mind, body and soul belonged with the soil. He bade his parents good night and he went to his sleeping quarters. As a growing up young man, his mind would sometimes wonder about his real parents. He had vague memories about his true nature. He would always brush aside those thoughts.

He woke up early as usual and prepared himself for school. He shared an early breakfast with his father then he trotted off to school. He began to hum a song of prayer, beseeching whoever held the reigns of life out there never to forsake him. He knew more about his ancestors than he knew about God. Yet he felt that God ought to be the supreme power. All farm workers had to attend church services on Sundays.

He listened well to the sermons. He understood that even Satan recognises the existence of God. All humankind should believe in something except for atheists who refute the existence of God.

He would walk along the beaten path to the assembly point at the school. The children would always stand to attention and the principal of the school would then utter a short prayer.

The girls in his class seemed drawn to him by some unseen force. They all wondered why he was always showing a bulge. Girls seem to know all about sex earlier than boys do. When the school was over, Daniel went home.

At the end of the year, he passed his matriculation examination test. That was then the end of his schooling days. Daniel became a man without having been a child after his father circumcised him. By then most people were aware that he possessed the biggest dick possible.

Even Nicole became aware of the rumour. Something in her rebelled against her age-old principles. Her own friends were telling her things about the wonder boy. She began paying special attention to the boy that fell from the sky, literarily.

Mr Kobus decided to make him in charge of all the farm labourers. However, he would have to report to Johann. Kobus was Johann’s father. Johann did nothing but visit his friends and go to strip clubs.

He loved watching women expose themselves for a price. His tool seldom reacted even as some of the women tried to entertain him. A steady working relationship began to germinate between Johann and Daniel.

The two young men could converse freely without the stigma of the statuses becoming a hindrance. Finally, they had a solid reason to become friends and share personal ideas.

They never spoke about anything else but farming. The knowledge that Daniel acquired over the years improved dramatically as Johann gave him books to read and learn.

The harvesting season was approaching and the regular temporary workers reported for duty. Daniel was responsible for all labour related matters. He was in his makeshift office and he looked outside expecting to see the temporary workers waiting for him. Gathered there were a number of temporary workers seeking to become permanent workers. They were all waiting for the farm owner to address them.

Instead, Daniel appeared and he sat by the makeshift desk. The workers were not expecting to see a black man addressing them. He called out to them to form a single file. He opened his register and started jotting down their names.

One of them spoke loud, where is Mr Kobus.

Daniel looked at the man and he did not recognize him. Some people cannot be anything but troublemakers. The man imagined that Daniel was one of the turncoats farmers were using against their own.

    What is your name sir?

Why should I tell you my name?

I need your name and your identification document; otherwise you cannot claim to be working on this farm.

I want to see Mr Kobus.

It is not necessary to call Mr Kobus for you. You can ask me any question you want to ask.

How much do you pay per day?

We pay eighty rand per day but you must work hard for it. If you sit around you will not have a job anymore. Right now you must wait your turn.

The man tried to overtake the timid ones but Daniel saw him no funny tricks from you. The man stopped sensing anger in his tone. He thought that Daniel was not one of the regular black people. He was by no means a coward but Daniel’s eyes scared him. He had never seen what he saw in Daniel’s eyes in any human being.

He saw something evil deep in his eyes. Some people fear Satan more that they fear God. Some people regard God as merciful and forgiving. Satan’s vocabulary is lacking in many ways. All he knows is destruction, pain and everything that is negative.

At the farmhouse, the family was having breakfast. Daniel’s mother, Nothemba, was attending to their demands. She did everything a homemaker ought to do for the family because she was the servant. She sometimes overstepped her role interfering in the affairs of the family. The wife, Nicole did nothing but moan about everything. She never seemed able to be happy yet outside the farm’s premises she was able to wear a happy mask.

Everyone around her was at some point or another doing something wrong. She imagined that she knew everything about life. However, no one took her seriously not even Kobus her husband thought highly of her. He never valued any of her million opinions. She bored everyone to death with her coquettish attitude.

Yet she behaved differently when with friends. She valued her friends more than she did her family. Those friends were generally men of stature controlling wealth about which ordinary people could only dream. Those were the people regarding themselves as of the master race.

Kobus thought that she was deluding herself and thus detached from reality. Kobus believed in keeping in touch with the changing times in which he was living. He regarded himself as an enlightened human being.

Most farmers shared his opinion but some diehards thought he was no longer one of them. He gave no thought to negative opinions about him. He had a great deal of farmland some of which he did not utilize anymore. He was planning to give the unused land to his workers but the temporary workers could not live on his land. He thought that they might build shacks and invite their friends and relatives to occupy the vacant land.

Johann did not have much interest in farming. He had his eye set on the vast world waiting for him to explore. He chose to visit his friends whenever he could. They would then go to nightclubs and have fun with women. He loved watching strippers perform on the stage. He could do nothing more than watching and getting drunk.

However, he could not make his intentions clear to his father for he feared that Kobus might disinherit him. He therefore became friends with Daniel to force his father to believe that he was interested in farming. Kobus therefore put him in charge of the affairs of the farm in total. Johann dedicated most of his duties to Daniel.

He was expecting Daniel to bring the list of new employees to him on that very morning. After eating breakfast, Johann went to his office. He found Daniel waiting for him.

This is the list of the temporary workers.
