About this ebook

Health radio broadcasting is usually somewhat predictable. Dr. Keith Robinson, the host of America Talks Health with Dr. Keith Robinson, a nationally syndicated health radio show based in Houston, Texas, interviews top doctors from across the nation and allows his listeners to call in and pose questions to his guests.

For over 500 shows the topics changed but the format stayed the same and thousands of listeners from across America just loved the show. But, one day, a guest doctor had to cancel at the last minute and Carrie, the show producer, had to fill the show time with something interesting. No one was available for this two-day slot so she booked a man claiming to be Jesus...the Son of God. Was this man delusional or a psychopath, but after years of being a journalist the bottom line was this: Dr. Keith smelled a hoax and that’s when Dr. Keith began preparing ways to expose this Jesus wannabe to his national audience of listeners.

Armed with a stack of very probing questions and the intent to clear the airways of this fraud forever, Dr. Keith prepared like never before. But, when all the smoke cleared Dr. Keith found his own world had been shaken to its core. Even with the best of preparations all any journalist can do is follow the story...and what a story it is!

    Preparing For the Next Show-

Little did this radio talk show host know that his next guest would change his life… forever!

It was February 1, 2002, when my producer and longtime friend, Carrie, and I were discussing the topics for shows in the upcoming week. Being a health talk radio show, we strive daily to inform our audience about the latest health information released by universities, respected health researchers, medical schools, and news agencies. With over 500 nationally syndicated shows already broadcast by the network, our health talk show subjects ranged from herbal remedies to breast cancer drugs, featuring important world recognized experts like natural health guru, Dr. Andrew Weil and famous heart surgeon, Dr. Michael DeBakey. Each show held a unique gem of health information that the audience could take with them after we signed off for the day.

One thing made our America Talks Health with Dr. Keith Robinson show so popular for so long is that we worked hard snaring the top health experts from across the world to be guests on our show. Giving the public direct phone access to these professionals who were on the front line of medical research was very popular with people across America. Above all we wanted our health show guests to speak on their hottest topics. Before long the traditional medical community from the Mayo Clinic to the Texas Medical Center and UCLA to Johns Hopkins Medical Center found out that our show was unlike any other talk shows. The upper echelon of the American Medical Association (A.M.A.) welcomed America Talks Health with Dr. Keith Robinson show to broadcast breaking health news topics on location, as they were born on the floor of the House of Delegates to the AMA annual meeting in Chicago. Our news was important information the people could use to make their lives healthier, happier, and it just might make them live longer—a great side benefit.

    Influence of a Great Father-

As a young man I recall my father saying, "Son, find a way to communicate with people so that they know your concern is truly for their well-being. Too many people think that doctors become doctors because they want to get rich or be lifted up in social circles. If people believe that about you, you will be doomed to a life of far less real meaning to mankind. You were put here to help people as they struggle to understand the things that make them sick and get them well; and to help people understand what they need to do to feel better today than they did yesterday. When you accomplish these things you will be worthy of the title Doctor. So, that piece of wisdom served as the primary foundation for my quest to be a different kind of doctor, one who cared about people more than the money, and more than the fame. That was a challenge but it was a goal that became quietly cemented in my heart.

That morsel of wisdom from Dad changed the direction of my life. From that point forward I raised my educational goals. Those moments that only the two of us knew strengthened our love on a much deeper level. For my entire life I knew that Dad had many special gifts. Calling him a genius just wasn't enough. For five decades he infused me with more than words. He shared wisdom about life and how to interact with even the most obnoxious people that crossed my path. Another gift he bestowed on me was the ability to talk openly about anything, any subject from bullies to understanding the needs and wants of a woman. Even today, his words find home in me at just the right moment. So, even when we are physically apart, my dad remains a constant source of inspiration and guidance. Without consciously understanding Dad’s simple, yet far-reaching wisdom, he gently created in me an emotional desire to touch people who are hurting from a wide range of health problems. And, even now, after years of health broadcasting, I feel privileged doing on air coverage of a wide field of topics from traditional to natural medicine, and from physical problems to emotional problems affecting children and adults. By fielding every health-related topic possible, my job is not just broadcasting, it's helping people find answers to their biggest fears and worries about health. Just like Dad said, "Always talk to the needs of their heart and keep it as simple as possible. Above all, because of the unique gifts from Dad I believe that my listeners know that I really care about them. But then many of the words I use on my show are not really my words. The truth is this: They are the wisdom of Dad speaking through me.

Another pivotal promise I made to myself, my producer, my guests and my listening public: I would refuse to follow what had become the favorite technique of many other news journalists, not to set up and then cut down genuine guests who were speaking on valid topics with new information for my listeners. These straw-man, cut-throat techniques are often used by other hosts, but I didn't want any part of that approach to broadcast journalism.

My producer, Carrie, and I knew there were a great many ways to get people to listen and be educated about health. We felt that by knowingly sabotaging our guests it would degrade our ratings because eventually
