All this book was is pure opinion, opinions on how romance novels, for example should be written, and complaints. There is no real pay off to reading this book, so much so by page 46 I had to put it down. It is awful and unhelpful, look somewhere else if you want good information on the writing industry.

Introduction – Why Write A Book?

Searching for inspiration…

Ask anyone around you if he has an ambition to write a book, or if they ever wanted to write a book. And the answer is either going to be rather self-conscious – or rather enthusiastic, depending on the age group –there was a time when I did some scribbling and I did some writing myself. But then, I got caught up in real life and the book is now somewhere on my hard disk drive.

Yes, friends a majority of us out there want to write books and best of all, we want to write a bestseller, which sells like hotcakes, and allows us to retire to Hawaii and drink Mai Tais for the rest of our lives, living off our royalties.

So let me tell you at the very beginning, that this ambition is a pipe dream which is obtained by only a very lucky few of us. And that is because they concentrated or concentrating on writing, rewriting, editing and proofreading their books and nothing else. Their main idea is to market their books in such a way that everybody knew about the written word, especially when it has been written by them. And most of all, they have a publisher and editor who keeps them on their toes.

If you have a 9-to-5 job and you are more interested in a paycheck which keeps your family surviving on a day to day basis, please do not spend your time writing a book hoping for it to become an instant bestseller. Living off your royalties is not something which is feasible for a new writer unless he is given a $1 million contract. And how many publishing houses out there do you know that do that in this time of global recession.

I am not discouraging you here. I am just going to give you some ground realities about how to write a bestseller and why so many people out there want to write bestsellers, but end up with a couple of chapters written and go back to doing something else.

So how do you know that you have the power and the dedication to write a book?

As an ex-editor and as a publisher of fiction here are some home truths which I am going to tell you about what constitutes writing a book. You have written a book. You have spell checked, reread, and proofread it. And if you are lucky enough to have an editor working with you, he is going to tell you about what to incorporate in the book. And you have to follow that.

You may consider your editor to be your best friend, guide and support – going by so many book dedications to editors, agents and publishers –, but she or he is a businessperson first and foremost. He has noticed the potential in you. You are a goose that is going to
