    I am an Englishman, born and technically educated in London, England, and now living in Austria; but in the winter, in the warmer Canary Island of Tenerife. I originally qualified as a Chartered Design Engineer, specializing in Applied Physics products. For developments in the field of low temperature (cryo)surgery instruments, and very high temperature (carbon fibre) processing furnaces, the Queen awarded me an MBE. Earlier in life I also wrote and sold science-fiction and humorous stories, was an active SF Fan, and a spare time lecturer for the British Interplanetary Society. Now retired I write quirky speculative fiction; mostly tall Science Fiction and Macabre tales, with over 100 short stories published in various collections, including MACABRE TALES, THE BEST OF THE TENERIFE TALL TALES, THE JUNIOR PHILOSOPHY SOCIETY, BEST SELLING AUTHOR PLAN etc.. The first 4 volumes in my near future, 5 stars SF espionage series for general readers, POINTS OF VIEW, are now available from Amazon, Smashwords etc. My best selling title, THE SINGULARITY IS COMING, is published in English and Chinese versions.

      The Nagging Problem

      I hopefully trust you will read and find the following updated autobiographical item of interest. After that we’ll get into the quirky alternative account of how another fiction author made it. You can ponder over which is the most interesting plan, and perhaps send me a few comments?

      Now to begin my own account…

      In the last few years, things have changed dramatically in the writing and publishing business, and will never be the same again. Anybody, perhaps almost everybody nowadays with any kind of computer seems to be having a go at it!

      Nowadays then, to most agents and acquisition editors, it must seem that there are far more writers around today than there are readers. Why do they do it? The irresistible lure of possibly, hopefully doing another Harry Potter?

      Perhaps their thoughts have turned to dreams of a preferable alternative to their daily boring occupation? Maybe they’re also making them an exercise in self-fulfillment too, a way to express and analyze their feelings about the world. Where they fear it's going, plus the nagging urge to communicate about it to anyone who’ll
