About this ebook

Sometimes paradise isn't all it's cracked up to be

That's what I, Kylie McGraw, have discovered since sacrificing my dreams of traveling the world to run the family shoe store. But if I have my way, peaceful Eden, Indiana, is in for a major shake-up .

It all began on my birthday, when I got drunk and disorderly all over Eden's hunky new police chief (and my former high school crush), Jack Reynolds. Then I may have, in my Cosmo haze, witnessed a murder in progress. Now I'm almost certain I'm being stalked by the mob, while he-of-the-distracting-abs Jack continues to think I'm nuts. However, there comes a time when a girl has to kick off her sensible shoes (size 7, cushion insoles) and go after what she wants. So if I can just survive long enough to put on my sexy new red heels, that's exactly what I intend to do .

Sweet book. PG-13 rating. There are a lot of threads in this book. Sibling rivalry, family responsibility, unrequited love, mob families, witness protection program, (early) midlife crisis, career burnout and more more more!

I felt there was too much going on. But Ms. Ciotta kept all the threads going, cleared up the mysteries and made it fairly realistic. After reading the book I read some reviews and found that this is the first of two books in the series. I can see a number of possible sequels, but I don't know tat I am compelled to go out of my way to find the second book.

My biggest beef with Ciotta is that she wrote some fun, light-hearted books a few years back (Charmed, Seduced) in which the main female character was strong, fun, sexy, independent, and most importantly, not whiny. Ciotta books since then have her main female character way too wimpy and allows herself to be pushed around (all under the guise of "concern" which is really just attempts to control her) by almost everyone in the story. Argh! All that being said, this book is better than her recent ones (Everybody Loves Evie), but not by much. It was cheesy and had a rushed HEA ending. The secondary characters were far more interesting than the main ones. A light, breezy read.

Out of Eden by Beth Ciotta is the perfect summer romance. When Kylie McGraw turns thirty she realizes that her life has been spent taking care of everyone else while putting her dreams on the back burner. Enter former crush Jack, a few crazy, old town folks, a cute dog and the mob and Kylie's life is shaken up. This was my first book by Ciotta and I very much enjoyed the characters, adventures and love.

Kylie McGraw feels her mundane life needs to be shaken up. After her birthday she makes an executive decision to remodel her families shoe store. Most members of Eden, Indiana believe she has gone crazy, and is trying to ruin their town. As they fight against her changes, she fights even harder back. The new sheriff in town, Jack Reynolds, is her older brother's best friend, and her childhood crush. They are thrown together: Jack, by the townspeople to in rein in Kylie, and Kylie since she witnessed a murder victim by mobsters. For the most part I enjoyed the book, but at times I found Kylie's need to "shake things up", rather annoying. I also did not connect fully with the characters. I did not dislike them, but I didn't fall in love with them either.

Kylie McGraw has lived all her life in Eden, Indiana. She has taken care of people and the family business, a shoe store, without thougth to herself. But now she is ready to shake things up. Just as she is ready to bust out, the love her life, Jack Reynolds, returns home to be chief of police atter burning out on his life with NYPD. Their reunion causes fireworks and Kylie's desire for change causes heartburn for just about everyone.I really enjoyed this book. Generally I don't like this much romance, but I found the characters and the town charming. The sex is hot and based on love, not just lust, no matter what Jack may say. Enjoy!

Another birthday in the small town of Eden, Indiana. Kylie McGraw was so tired of the same ol’, same ol’ and decided, during her ‘traditional’ birthday celebration, that this was the time for some changes in her life and in her world. Starting with getting drunk on Cosmo’s (she normally drank only beer) and if she is not careful, ending with her life in danger. During that Cosmo haze and the following morning hangover, Kylie not only made decisions, she placed online orders. Wanting to update and upgrade the family owned shoe store she marched right into the hardware store for paint and walked out with a helper (Travis Martin). Getting away from the big crime in New York City, Jack Reynolds came home to Eden as the new Chief of Police only to find his best friends little sister the biggest problem he would have to handle. She had always been the little sister that everyone knew had a crush on him, now he started seeing her as a women and he was in trouble, with the town, himself and his friend if he couldn’t find a way to handle her and her new found need for change. This is a new author to me, I really enjoyed this one. It was a combination of a lot of things from a suspense to action with a bit of comedy and a lot of romance. The typical hero comes to save the day. The heroine is strong and usually does the rescuing but for this time in her life, she needs to be saved. While I don’t know much about the reality of mafia type families, the rest of the story was very realistic and relatable. I enjoyed several parts of the relationships between siblings, their friends and the small town environment. Fun even for a non-shoe lover like myself.

Out of Eden, by Beth Ciotta, is a typical romantic novel. We’ve got instant attraction, misunderstandings, shoes, nosy neighbors, the long suffering best friend, and the Mafia. Maybe the Mafia isn’t typical but the point is, there wasn’t anything surprising about this novel. I was anxious to read a funny romance but instead I found myself just wanting to get through it. It’s well-written, there isn’t a problem with that. The novel has a plot that moves along fairly quickly, but it just wasn’t interesting. I found the main character to be rather annoying. She ran her family’s shoe store and let her family walk all over her because she never expressed what she wanted. She wanted adventure. She wanted to travel throughout Asia. She wanted to paint the shoe store! I wanted to shake her and tell her to just do it! I understand putting dreams on hold but the constant whining about it was annoying. And then there was Jack. He’s not a very well defined character. I know he was good looking -as all romantic leads must be - and was a police officer. Other than his loyalty to friends and family, and his endearing affection for the dog that adopted him, he was pretty boring. I guess my thoughts are that I’ve read similar plots that were much more interesting. When you really don’t care if the romantic leads get together, it’s a problem. I was disappointed. It’s not horrible, but it just didn’t get to the point where I’d call it good.

I must admit, I wasn't very intrigued by the cover of this book. The story description sounding fun, though, so I thought I'd take a chance. Am I very happy that I did. This book was fun, well-written, and intriguing; it blew my fairly low expectations right out of the water. The story kicks off from the very first page and maintains a lively, engaging pace all throughout. The characters are all interesting in their own rights, but when you toss them together, the interactions are a load of fun. This book is full of appeal -- it's romantic, sweet, sexy, funny, and dramatic. I've never read any of Beth Ciotta's work before this, but I now plan on picking up more of her books.

Kylie McGraw has put her dreams on hold for her family, several times, and so on the night of her 32nd birthday, she has a bit too much to drink and decides it's time to shake things up. What follows is sometimes humorous, sometimes sad and about half way through the book, suspenseful; which is when the story really kicked in for me. The book has the regular clichés of many romances - the big city burned out cop returning to his small hometown and the younger sister’s crush on her brother’s best friend among them. Yet, Beth Ciotta makes them fresh and quite fun to read. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. Highly recommend.

I absolutely loved this novel! It is the first I've read from the author Beth Ciotta. The characters were delightful and the book was filled with comedy, suspense and romance, all of which I enjoy to the fullest. I can't wait to read a sequel to this book. By far this is the best Earyl Reviewer book I have received to date!

Written in third person, this quirky love story has it all. We have a romance that started out with a crush nearly 20 years ago, various secondary characters who are either nosy, opinionated or just plain annoying. Ms Ciotta has also thrown in a mystery involving something that really came out of left field for me, was quite surprisingly funny and fun. The first half of this book was a bit gloomy and filled with angst, but the second half really picked up and became almost action driven. Which is surprising for a chick lit/romance novel and a very pleasant surprise. This book was an easy, fairly fast read which would be fun to read over your summer vacation! And for those that don't like the more overt sex scenes that are found in a lot of romances today, the sex is fairly tame in" Out Of Eden" as is most of the language.

Out of Eden features Kylie, a small-town girl trying to break out of her monotonous existence, and Jack, a big-town cop burnt-out on crime. Together, they find excitement in the small Indiana town of Eden. Interesting side characters, funny and sometimes over the top scenes make this a great summer read. My only complaint was that sometimes certain scenes were mentioned in passing and then never fleshed out. For example, Kylie and Jack have a (sort of) history, and Kylie mentions that she is embarrassed because of something that happened several years ago. Maybe I missed it, but I never saw this explained. I would also like to have seen more of an epilogue with Kylie's family members, and more of a resolution with some of the side stories, although I guess open-ended side stories could spawn spin-offs. Overall, I definitely recommend this as a light fun read.

This was a quick, funny and quite enjoyable read. I would have loved to seen what the author thought up for all those shoe designs! I plan on checking out the next book to see what happens to the brother.

I love stories where the heroine has had a crush on her brother’s friend for years because it makes the tender emotional side of the book very believable. It’s not an overnight and flimsy love story, but one that comes from years of attraction and friendship. This is one of those stories.Kylie, the heroine, is feeling restless from living her whole life in a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. Jack, the hero, is returning home to Eden, Indiana after spending years as a New York City homicide detective. He has seen too much violence and he’s burned out. Life in Eden isn’t always as quiet and idyllic as he might want it to be, but reconnecting with Kylie turns out to be an unexpected bonus.Beth Ciotta has a plucky style that's well-paced and not over the top. Her characters are likeable and the hero and heroine have great chemistry. There’s an element of danger that keeps this story moving without overpowering the romance. Overall, I’d say this is very well written and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a good contemporary romance.

This was my first book by Beth Ciotta and it was a quick, enjoyable read. I found the main character to be funny and easy to relate to, and I liked that there were so many secondary characters. I imagine they will show up again in future books.

"Out of Eden" is the story of Kylie McGraw and Jack Reynolds. They knew each other well in childhood but Jack left the small town of Eden to be a cop in NYC. His return as the new Chief of Police at the start of the book happens to coincide with Kylie's decision to stir things up in her own life. The two still have chemistry and things ignite instantly. This pair has obstacles a plenty to over come - his past, her future plans, both families, the mob. Watching them navigate their romance was a fun ride. Jack is a sexy and sweet hero and Kylie is funny and charming. All of the people in the small town add humor and heart to the story. This was my first book by Beth Ciotta and I enjoyed it. It looks like there will be at least one follow up book - Spenser McGraw's story due out later this year. I hope she is planning a trilogy (at least) because I really want to find out what happens to Jack's sister, Jessica. Can't wait for more from this author!
