About this ebook

Nothing sells like love & scandal...

Collette Jardiniere writes of passion and seduction but has experienced neither. Her pseudonymous novel, The Last Days of a Rake, has shocked Victorian society and become a runaway bestseller. Infamous roué Charles Jameson is "revealed" as the author, and Collette is outraged when the cad does little to curtail the gossip.

Intrigued by the book the tabloids claim is his thinly veiled autobiography, Jameson tries to find the real author. Returning to London after an unsuccessful hunt, he is pleasantly distracted by a plain country miss reading the wicked book.

Collette is dismayed when she learns the identity of the devastatingly handsome man who kissed her senseless. And Jameson cannot believe that she wrote The Last Days of a Rake. As Collette tries to convince him of the truth, their mutual attraction reaches a fever pitch, and soon they find themselves in a real-life scandal!

Donna Lea Simpson

Donna Lea Simpson is a nationally bestselling romance and mystery novelist with over twenty titles published in the last eleven years. An early love for the novels of Jane Austen and Agatha Christie was a portent of things to come; Donna believes that a dash of mystery adds piquancy to a romantic tale, and a hint of romance adds humanity to a mystery story. Besides writing romance and mystery novels and reading the same, Donna has a long list of passions: cats and tea, cooking and vintage cookware, cross-stitching and watercolor painting among them. Karaoke offers her the chance to warble Dionne Warwick tunes, and nature is a constant source of comfort and inspiration. A long walk is her favorite exercise, and a fruity merlot is her drink of choice when the tea is all gone. Donna lives in Canada. The best writing advice, Donna believes, comes from the letters of Jane Austen. That author wrote, in an October 26, 1813, letter to her sister, Cassandra, “I am not at all in a humor for writing; I must write on till I am.” So true! But Donna is usually in a good humor for writing!

Anyone who loves Austen novels with fall in love with Love & Scandal. A period time classic filled with all the goods that make women swoon. I adored the male lead character and was enchanted by Collette. She possessed all the strong attributes I want in a female character: intelligence, independence, wit and sexuality. She was soft when necessary and stubborn when needed. I was drawn into the story and longed to linger in London, forever. Perhaps, I am a sucker for these guilty pleasures, but if I have to get lost, I want it to be in this type of novel. Simpson simply entertained me and I will be back for more of her seductive talent.Jane Austen's romances were criticized for being prudish and lacking sexuality. This can not be said about Love & Scandal. The passionate scenes were a touch too descriptive given the era. I pondered this for a time wavering back and forth on my opinion. I understood what the author was doing and it did fit with the themes, but it still was problematic for me. I enjoyed the unique approach, but wished that more was left to my imagination when it came to the bedroom. Despite the detailed exchange of bodily fluids, I was thinking 5 stars all the way until the ending. Most will find it perfectly fine and even hopeful, but I was disappointed that not more suspense occurred or at least a greater struggle. I love a happy ending, but this was just too 'kiss and make up' for me.
