About this ebook

My name is Etan, and I am Adorned.

A living piece of art, I exist to please the divine rulers of Kered. With nowhere to turn after my father died, I tried my luck in the capital city. Little did I know how quickly I would be robbed, beaten and forced to sell myself into servitude. But I was lucky enough to gain the attention of Roberd Tallisk, an irascible but intriguing tattoo artist who offered to mark me with enchanted ink for the enjoyment of the nobles. I was given a chance to better my station in life, and I could not refuse.

But the divine rulers want not only the art but the body that bears it. In their company I can rise above the dregs of society and experience a life most only dream of, at the cost of suffering their every desire as a pawn in games of lavish intrigue. Their attention is flattering, but I find I'd rather have Tallisk's.

Caught between factions, I learn that a revolution is brewing, one that could ruin Keredand Roberd and myself along with it

I feel as if I picked up this book in the middle of a series, but after looking around I'm pretty sure it is a stand alone book. I felt as if I was suppose to know how the world worked with little information. I also felt it was slow and the build up of the relationship between the two MCs was extremely slow. I think I must have read a different book then the other reviewers because I didn't read a 5 plus star book. I read a book that went into too much details on some things and not enough detail on other things and I'm not talking about the glossed over sex. Not sure if I would read anything else by this author and it's not the author's fault but more because this just doesn't suit my taste.

I guess I kept waiting for some reason behind the character's actions, but by the end it seemed as though it was just random actions leading to random outcomes. So much minutiae for the sake of minutiae. Frustrating.

Wow, my friends. This is a 4.5 star book that only misses the 5 stars because I'm so stingy with giving those out.

When Etan's father dies, leaving him with nothing, he has no idea what to expect from what he knows will no doubt be a grim future. But after he encounters a bondsman who thinks he might make a good new Adorned - people who serve as a living canvas to display the art of the master tattoo artists - his whole world is changed. And it might just change again when he finds himself beginning to fall for his new master.

Dystopia, fantasy, nobility, romance, danger - John Tristan has created an incredible world here. His engaging writing - all done in first person, which is not always an easy feat - creates a world from which I find myself only wanting to know more.
