About this ebook
Dan Beckins isn't sure how he let his best friend con him into volunteering to build Santa's Winter Wonderland at the local hospital. He's got no problems with charity work, but anything Christmas-related is off-limits ever since he lost his parents on Christmas Day years ago. The only bright spot is working with smoking-hot Anna Smith.
Anna Smith loves Christmas and volunteering at the hospital is one of her yearly highlights. She had leukemia as a teen and then a breast cancer scare in her mid-twenties, and is now operating under a self-imposed rule that she can't have a relationship until the doctors give her a clean bill of health.
A little fling might be permissible, though, and sexy lawyer-turned-carpenter Dan seems like the perfect candidate. But when chemistry flares and the two start forming a real connection, will Anna run away before like turns to love?

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5(3 1/2 stars) This was a cute little holiday story. Both the hero and heroine have some definite baggage. She had cancer as a child, suffered through a more recent breast cancer scare, and is now afraid to get into a relationship without having a clear bill of health first. As a result, Anna Smith has decided she's a fling-only girl for two years, at which point she should know whether or not her most recent health concerns are over. Dan Beckins lost both of his parents on Christmas when he was younger, so he's pretty much tried to out-Scrooge Scrooge ever since.
I enjoyed Jeanette Murray's style of writing in this book. Her dialogue was fun and her characters were quirky. It was mostly a nice little Christmas story, but it did have a bit more going on below the surface with the two characters' problems. I found it to be a nice balance altogether.
I found Dan's issues to feel a bit more "real" than Anna's--her self-imposed moratorium on dating just felt a bit extreme. Never having personally had major health issues like that, though, it could be that her reactions were indeed spot-on; but they felt slightly forced, which kind of had me rolling my eyes a bit at her continued denial of a relationship with Dan. Dan's turnaround was a bit quick, but 1) it is a novella, so space is limited and 2) it wasn't so much so that it was unbelievable, so ultimately it didn't really bother me.
Overall, this was a quick, fun read that put me in the holiday spirit. I'll definitely add this author to my "must find more books from" list. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5No Mistletoe Required is a sweet Christmas novella about two people who need to “step outside of themselves” and really and truly enjoy life and all it has to offer. I can’t imagine what Dan and Anna have actually had to endure during the course of their lives. I love Christmas and I can’t say that I wouldn’t be like Dan if I lost my entire family on Christmas Day. The same can be said for Anna, I would feel bad about meeting someone and then dragging them into my medical scares. I love this quote from the book, referring to Christmas, “It’s just one of those times of the year where anything seems possible.” Even though this is a short book, it skips in time a little, I found that the story could actually be true for some people. I loved that a little pixie like Anna could get Dan the Grinch to actually remember his parents and what Christmas actually use to mean to his family. I also loved the way Anna’s brother was able to make her realize that she was pushing guys away for her own self-preservation.No Mistletoe Required is a good Christmas romance to curl up on your couch with for a day.
