About this ebook

Winter, a hybrid, has spent her life at war. A group of humans who are part demon, the hybrids, along with the lupines and nightwalkers, have dedicated their lives to defeating demons and protecting humanity. Yet, despite their united cause, the three groups share an uneasy alliance.

When hybrid military compounds come under attack from demon insurgents, Winter has no choice but to turn to the lupines and nightwalkers for assistance. It's a partnership based on necessity and she has no intention of letting down her guard with either group.

Marcus, the nightwalker Lord, has other plans. The immediate attraction between him and Winter promises a passion he can't ignore. To claim her as his own, he'll not only have to fight the demons who seem hell-bent on destroying her, but her own misconceptions about him and the nightwalker race. It's a battle he refuses to lose.

Loribelle Hunt

Loribelle is like the South she calls home. Hot and sultry. Languid and sexy. Magnolias and gardenias scent her silk lined boudoir, and men and children alike bow to her magnificence... Okay, maybe it isn’t quite that glamorous. She does have two smart and lovely daughters who give her a run for her money and a son that will one day be someone’s model of a romance hero. (She promises.) Her husband is a real life hero, and Loribelle just tries to keep up with the demands of military life. In between, she writes a book or two. She’s had every job under the sun, but haven’t most writers? That Army military police, bookstore manager, waitress, wedding photographer, website designer experience has to come in useful sometimes. As they say in the South, it all washes out in the end. She loves hearing from her readers and can be found at http://www.loribellehunt.com.

In Kiss of Darkness, Winter is a hybrid who's almost reached the end of her days. The only way to save herself from her demon half is to find a mate and bond with him, something she'll never do except for love. Her lieutenants, Dupree and Gia, have got the same problem, and a few more on their own.At the same time, a horde of demons manages to locate some of the hybrids' military compounds, leaving nothing but blood and sorrow behind them, and for her people's sake, Winter has to make an alliance with the lupins and the nightwalkers, which, given the two species' old fight, could end in a disaster. The nightwalkers' lord, though, might be more interested in getting into the determined hybrid's heart and mind.Kiss of Darkness was a fine, fast-paced Paranormal Romance. Although Winter and Marcus are the main ones, the story follows several other characters and their love problems, along with the general battle against the warlords and the demons. The shifting POV was useful to understand some of the males' reactions and feelings, so different from the hot-tempered heroine's.The plot was good, although nothing new, and the world was well structured and pretty interesting, but the author could have added some more details and a background story. The love stories were sweet and steamy at the same time and, though I'm happy for Marcus and Winter's happy ending, I was disappointed that I didn't get to know if Gia and Luke would eventually end up together and, most of all, if Dupree would give in to his feeling for Kara - they were such a nice couple! The several unanswered question make me believe there will be a sequel to this book and, if I'm in the mood, I might choose to read it.

I think this might appeal to Christine Feehan and Jacqueline Frank fans. In brief: interesting but not fully developed characters, good world-building and uneven plotting/pacing made this fun but not entirely satisfying.Winter has been a human-demon hybrid for 60 years and, along with her fellow hybrids and teammates Gia and Dupree, is starting to lose her battle against the darkness within her when she meets Marcus, a nightwalker (i.e., vampire). Marcus immediately recognizes that Winter is his mate, but also realizes that she is going to be resistant to bonding with him, even though it will save her sanity. At around the same time, an unusually organized group of demons has begun attacking the hybrids' safe-houses and it's up to Winter to protect her people. The world-building is interesting and mostly well done. There are a few instances where the powers the different hybrids have and the question of who knows that Marcus is secretly the Lord of the nightwalkers and at what point in the story is a little unclear, but mostly it fits together. The plot is pretty standard PNR/UF -- a band of super-powered fighters battles demons to protect the world + occasionally angsty romance. Some scenes get a bit repetitive, though, in terms of character arcs and relationship denying/building. Sometimes that can be good for building tension in a story, but here it felt more like the motor was on idle while the author tried to figure out how to get to the next part of the story arc. This is one of those books in which the author spends almost as much time building up the secondary characters' romances in preparation for their stories as it does on the primary characters in this story. Given that Marcus has been alive for who knows how long and Winter went from being a 1950s housewife to a widowed demon fighter, there's a ton of potential character exploration that just barely gets touched on. However, I liked that Marcus was self-aware enough to control his possessive urges toward Winter, to respect her role as a warrior and a woman. I also liked that Winter was able to express herself --her anger, loyalty, confusion, etc. -- without coming off as an immature brat.Honestly, there is enough potential in these characters for full-on awesomeness that I kind of wish the author had taken a few more months to work out the kinks in the plotting. Either that or that she had let the three main couples have their own books or have a full-on interwoven trilogy--one or the other, this particular blend is too blended to be fully satisfying.Complaints aside, this has enough potential that I probably will read the next in the series. This review is based on a digital ARC received through NetGalley

Jessica Frasure is a psychologist who travels to Transylvania to investigate a series of vampire parties. While there she becomes involved with three college students. They are terrorized and one is in a comma, when they return to New Orleans. She has some secrets herself that she must hde from the unsupecting humans. One thing I like about Heather Graham's aka Shannon Drake's vampire stories is because they're different than most vampire novels out there. With her love for Scotland and New Orleans, she normally weaves one or two of those elements into her vampire books. This one is no different. I loved the interaction between Jessica and Bryan, and their instant attraction for each other which later was explained layer by layer throughout the book. It's a very good read.

Vampires abound in this book...vampires of all types, including the so powerful Master. He is back at full strength and on the hunt. A hunt that starts with wild parties to lure in the innocents and feast. Jessica Fraser finds herself drawn into the Master's schemes in a most unusual way. She is hunting him...but how does she know of his existance and how can she expect to stand a chance against his power. The answer to this lies in an unexpected blast from the past (the very very distant past), in the form of Bryan MacAllister. Who is the man that shows up knowing more than he should at just the right moment? The book got off to great start. We jump right in and meet Jessica and her group of freinds as she is saying good bye to them. She's going to a conference in Transylvania of all places. The action starts here at one of the Master's notorious parties. After this things began to get a little confusing for me. There is much we don't learn about Jessica until at least half way through the book. And what we don't know isn't explained in a very good way...it's just suddenly tossed out there. It left me with a "what the hell is going on" feeling. I actually went back and reread part because I thought I had missed something.Once we have this sudden change in our main character under control, things begin to develop rapidly. They develop...and develop...and develop some more. There were at least three times I thought I was reading the final scene only to encounter a "but wait" moment. One, even two of these is fine to throw a surprise the reader's way, but this ended with a few too many. When the ending finally did come, it seemed very disappointing after all the repeated hype. If the author had worked the ending in about 50 pages sooner, it would have had a fantastic finish. Unfortunately, it just left me feeling a bit let down.
