Reviews for Be Funny or Die!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I got this book for free from librarything.com member giveaway. It was an easy read for one lazy evening.I liked that the issue was viewed as a complex fenomena not just compilation of jokes: learn them by heart and you will be all right. It's a lot of things which influences our way of communication and one must do much more than just to go around telling cheap jokes. It's necessary to read, go to events, learn, exercise the brains to get to achieve the goal of beeing funny. However I was expecting more in-depth analysis. More psichological approach to what is really behind one person's ability of being funny and another's disability to open his/her mouth. Okay, it may be well known fact that it's about self-esteem, self-perception and self-evalutation, but then I wanted to know more about how to overcome those fears.I think that at times there were too much emphasis put on unnecessary topics. For instance, I don't want to know, how to tell stories. I'm not gonna be a storyteller. Besides most of the persons can tell funny stories in their heads but can't speak aloud. And it's again because of the underlying reasons of not being able to be funny. That's why I would like to know more about how to overcome the fears not how to compose a story.Anyway it's good to have inspirational books like this one to encourage people not to give up, to assure people that it's not all written in the stone and we can change ourselves for good.

CHAPTER 1
Everybody Loves a Funny Man.
Why is Being Funny Important?
As you now begin the journey of understanding how to be a funny person, most people will ask themselves this very important question, is it necessary to be funny? Especially for adults?
To answer this question, we are going to look at the benefits of being humorous and the sentimental value that accompanies being funny.
Not everyone is bound to be a funny person, but it is, however, very important to know when to step up to the plate and display the funny person in you. This is very important because in order to create social atmospheres where conversations can be enjoyed, humor must be an ingredient.
Conversations are important facets to human beings because they help people to understand each other further. Yet, most people tend to avoid conversations for the fear of being proselytized.
A funny person can, on the other hand, tactfully initiate a conversation, without the urge to change someone’s opinion or without being judgmental at other peoples preferences.
It is therefore very important to learn how to be to be funny so that other people can open up to conversations with you, knowing that you do not wish to investigate their ideologies.
With this in mind, we cannot expect everyone be willing to pursue wanting to be more funny like a messianic complex. Unfortunately then, being a serious deadbeat makes less people want to associate with you because of the lack of feel-goodness that comes from being around funny people.
The Purpose of Humor in Everyday Life
Humor is considered to be a very powerful tool for human beings which helps us to accept and to be accepted by other human beings. Humor normally achieves this by lowering or eliminating the emotional barriers that are part of every individual's everyday life.
Through this mechanism, humor creates an effect, best described as an attraction, which thus opens the doors of acceptance between people. Hence, most of the time it does not matter how angry, sad or serious a person is, but when a witty statement or movements are made, it has the ability of
