Something was missing from Lucy Stallow. She wished she knew exactly what was missing, but that would defeat the point of something being missing.

Lucy stared out of the bus window at the people walking down the pavement. She shouldn’t be feeling as if something was missing. Not on a day as good as this. No matter how hard she thought, however, she couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for her turmoil. It wasn’t that she was lacking in prospects for her future, as her college was so keen to give her the grades she worked for. It wasn’t for fame and fortune; the only kinds of famous encounters Lucy wanted was through biographies. It was something else, something far deeper than weather and grades and fame. If only she knew.

A sudden stop from the bus tore Lucy out of her thought process. Passengers were being picked up.

Three more Lucys stepped onto the bus, giving their fare to the bus driver. They were all wearing the same clothes that Lucy Stallow wore, and styled their long black hair the same way she did. One held a book that Lucy Stallow had read before; The Leaves in Autumn, by Lucy Cartwright. She quite enjoyed the book. A bit predictable, but she had read so many books of late that it had become easy to guess where the author was going with it.

The three Lucys sat down three chairs down from Lucy Stallow and began to talk.

Their conversation drifted across many topics. Two of the Lucys had apparently found a suiting David that was free for them, with the third still on the hunt. The third admitted that she had been hanging out with Emilys a lot of the time, and the only guys that bothered to be around an Emily were Chrises. Lucy Stallow could never hang around an Emily, nor a Chris. They were far too outgoing and sociable for her liking. She’d much prefer a David of her own.

The conversation morphed itself to talking about the latest fashion. Each of them were discussing what the new line of clothes looked like, trying to piece together rough memories from clothes websites and magazine reports to figure out what the new fashion was. One of them knew what the latest Emily fashion was, but of course, that was no use to anyone in the conversation. Lucy Stallow was keen to join in, as the latest fashion was the sole reason for her to be on this bus in the first place. Despite the group being fellow Lucys, she couldn’t bring herself to it. It was rude to talk to a Lucy you haven’t met. Lucy Stallow decided against eavesdropping on other’s conversations, opting to
