    THE RECAP

    Welcome back to the story of my life. To recap;

    I was just an ordinary teenager from Kingston Valley High until a stranger came to town and told me I was the chosen one destined to fight the undead. I killed a couple of kids at school – not that they didn’t have it coming; I mean the one was a total a-hole. Anyway, the one ate the other and then the other one turned into a flesh hungry zombie. And my new friend, Richard, was possessed by a demon called Clairvius, so I killed him – twice… After that, the shit pretty much hit the fan. Everyone started eating each other while Michelle and I tried to find my mother amongst the chaos. We took refuge in a perverted man’s house of sexual toys and that was when Alex, my bully from school, and Fluffy joined our group (Fluffy is a very loveable Husky who kicks ass when it comes to killing the undead). We finally found my mom in the hospital (after a run-in with some creepy zombie babies) and headed out to the library to look for any information we could find about Clairvius in the encyclopaedias. While trying to escape from the zombies that overran the library, we were taken hostage by a group of ruthless bandits led by the soulless Calvin (who I finally killed, but during the struggle his shotgun went off and amputated Alex’s leg). It was round about here that Clairvius resurfaced and told me about his plot to take over our world and that he would kill everyone I loved if I tried to stop him.

    While out looking for a vehicle to move Alex with, we went to save the daughter of one of our own which Calvin held captive in a mausoleum in the cemetery of all places – how macabre is it to keep a hostage in a mausoleum during a zombie apocalypse? There were a few run-ins with more of the undead (my least favourite was the zombie clown) and then we returned to the hospital. James (the stranger that came to town and told me I was the chosen one) showed up out of nowhere and told me I sucked at killing zombies. We set out once more and got attacked by a group of zombies. Mom got scratched by a zombie and decided to take her own life.

    That’s pretty much everything that happened so far in a nutshell…

    ONE

    The pain of losing someone you love is unbearable and indescribable; it’s a pain I would never wish upon even my worst enemy. It’s a pain that eats at your soul until you can no longer cry. I was never one to shed a tear, but as I stood on the edge of the rooftop staring down at the chaos below, my eyes were filled with tears. Mom was gone. I would never hear her laugh again, or see her smile… or tell her that I love her. There was nothing I could do to bring her back. I should’ve done more to protect her – it was my fault that she died.

    The headless zombies all lay in a bloody mess in the street below. None of them were moving anymore. I had no idea what I did, but somehow I made all of their heads explode with the power of my mind. I didn’t care much for the heap of headless zombies. Under other circumstances I would have revelled in what I’ve done… but not at that moment. All I could think of was mom. I wanted her back; I felt like a small little boy – scared to be alone.

    Finally. James said and stepped closer, You’ve reached your full potential.

    I slowly turned to face him and wiped the tears from my eyes, though the rain still flowed down my face. It took me a moment to realize what had happened and snap out of the semi-vegetated state.

    I stared down at the pile of goo, brains and body parts and then it hit me; I had a new power of some sorts.

    Did I do that? I asked confused.

    Yes. James said, "Why do you think I called you the chosen one? You have to be born with special abilities. It took you a while to kindle them, but I think your powers have manifested."

    I turned and stared down at the marsh of headless zombies… I did that with only my mind.

    But how? I asked confused.

    You have to figure out how to manifest your powers when you need them. James said, It’s the only way we can successfully defeat Clairvius for good.

    I don’t know what happened. I said, I was sad and angry at the same time. I just wanted them all to die… or rather stay dead.

    Michelle eavesdropped and eventually stepped closer. She seemed a bit out of place and awkward, but finally spoke.

    Maybe… She said and hesitated, Maybe it’s losing your mother that manifested your powers?
