Se stai leggendo o ascoltando questo libro, probabilmente hai già fatto qualcosa con la lingua italiana, forse hai letto l'altro libro intitolato I segreti della lingua italiana per stranieri e arrivato alla fine (arrivata alla fine), volevi leggere ancora. O forse no… Quali sono le tue personali ragioni per cui stai leggendo o ascoltando questo libro? Pensaci ora. Perché stai leggendo un altro libro sull'apprendimento della lingua italiana?

Solo tu puoi conoscerle. Io, invece, posso solo immaginarle. E posso pensare che dopo aver letto o ascoltato il primo volume forse vorresti avere altre spiegazioni sulla grammatica italiana, oppure altri consigli per imparare più velocemente questa bella lingua; o ancora qualcos'altro di interessante che possa motivarti nel tuo personalissimo percorso verso la padronanza della lingua italiana; perché, se stai leggendo o ascoltando questo libro, posso dedurre che tu vuoi parlare l'italiano molto bene. E sai qual è la primissima domanda che pongo ad ogni mio studente quando lo incontro per la prima volta?

Te lo dirò nel prossimo paragrafo, per ora lascia che ti dica che anche questo libro può essere usato in diversi modi.

Il primo è quello di considerarlo come un manuale da leggere e mettere in pratica. E in tal caso potrai leggerlo in italiano o in inglese a seconda del tuo livello di comprensione della lingua italiana.

Perché in questo libro avrai, come hai già notato, due versioni, una in italiano - la lingua che stai per padroneggiare - e una in inglese - forse la tua lingua madre, oppure una lingua che per ora parli un pochino meglio dell'italiano. E sei tu che puoi scegliere quale leggere. Non voglio chiederti di fare dell'uso di questo libro un appuntamento fisso quotidiano se proprio non puoi, ma devi sapere che nel realizzarlo ho pensato ad un testo da leggere o ascoltare quotidianamente dall'inizio alla fine, nell'ordine proposto. Ogni tanto ti chiederò anche di fare qualche esercizio... Se vuoi parlare l'italiano molto bene, fallo subito oppure quando rileggi nuovamente il libro, in ogni caso fallo! Un consiglio è d’obbligo, però: leggine o ascoltane un pochino al giorno. Non so quant’è per te un pochino al giorno, forse cinque minuti, o dieci, o magari quindici. Non esagerare: poco e spesso è meglio che tanto tutto in una volta.

Il secondo modo di usare questo libro è quello di considerarlo come un piccolo corso per imparare l'italiano in italiano! Eh, sì! Proprio così: ci troverai tante piccole (o grandi) idee, tecniche e storie che ti aiuteranno ad assorbirne l'italiano ad un livello profondo. Eh??? Com'è possibile tutto questo? Lo potrai scoprire solo andando avanti con la lettura o con l'ascolto del libro. Perché parlo anche di ascolto del libro? Accanto alla versione scritta, ho pensato, come quasi sempre nei miei libri, di leggerlo a voce alta così che tu sia esposto (esposta) alla pronuncia dell'italiano; perché io penso che l'ascolto o magari l'ascolto contemporaneo alla lettura possa favorire l'apprendimento. E tu? Cosa ne pensi? Pensi che questo possa aiutarti? Qualunque sia la tua risposta, sappi che di recente è stato pubblicato un saggio intitolato Lettura + Ascolto che spiega scientificamente come questa doppia esposizione possa aiutare l'apprendimento delle lingue… E non solo. Ma questa è tutta un'altra storia. Perciò continua a leggere e/o ad ascoltare!

Prima di andare avanti con la lettura e soprattutto con l’ascolto, voglio darti un consiglio. Interrompi la lettura e l’ascolto ogni volta che hai bisogno di riflettere su qualcosa che ti ha stimolato oppure ogni volta che vuoi fare un esercizio che ti propongo di fare. Mi raccomando usa la funzione pausa del tuo lettore mp3 (o qualsiasi altro dispositivo che usi per ascoltare e concentrarti sul suono della mia voce), anche perché spesso nell’audio non sarò in grado di darti la lunghezza giusta della pausa di cui tu hai bisogno.

E ora, mentre continui a leggere o ad ascoltare, o entrambe le cose, potrebbe tornarti in mente una volta in cui hai imparato qualcosa di molto bello per te. Eh sì, un'esperienza piacevole di apprendimento. So che molti hanno avuto anche esperienze di apprendimento non tanto belle, ma per ora ti chiedo di concentrarti su una tua piacevole esperienza, magari quando hai imparato qualcosa (qualsiasi cosa!) ed è stato facile e divertente. Potrebbe essere successa di recente o molto molto molto molto tempo fa. In qualunque periodo della tua vita sia successa, questa esperienza piacevole di apprendimento, richiamala alla mente ricordando ciò che vedevi in quel momento. Anzi, no, facciamo una cosa migliore: immagina che stia succedendo proprio ora. Cosa stai vedendo? Cosa stai ascoltando? Che rumori ci sono? Ci sono delle voci? Cosa dicono? Che sensazioni provi in questo momento? E mentre provi queste sensazioni, renditi conto che in passato hai già imparato tante cose, anche belle, che ti fanno stare bene. E puoi farlo anche con lingua italiana: riesci a immaginare tutta la gioia che può darti il parlare la lingua italiana molto bene? Lo hai fatto? Se sì, sei pronto (sei pronta) a continuare a leggere (o ad ascoltare). Altrimenti fermati un momento e ricordati una bella esperienza di apprendimento, con tutti i tuoi sensi e solo dopo averlo fatto, vai avanti.

Prima di dirti qual è la primissima domanda che pongo a tutti i miei studenti, non mi resta che parlarti di come è organizzato questo libro.

Ci sono tre parti. Nella prima ci occuperemo insieme della tua motivazione, imparerai il gioco del ma positivo e parleremo ancora di convinzioni.

Nella seconda parte ti presenterò alcune lezioni che ho creato per fare acquisire la lingua, invece che per impararla. Sai qual è la differenza? Ci troverai delle lezioni realizzate per alcuni studenti che volevano imparare l'italiano con tutto il loro corpo e tu sarai invitato (invitata) a fare ciò che ascolti! E scoprirai come sia facile ricordare i vocaboli se usi il tuo corpo per farlo. Poi conoscerai anche il metodo delle storie e delle domande applicato alla lingua italiana.

Nella terza parte continueremo affrontando e superando gli ostacoli della grammatica italiana in modo più esplicito: in particolare conoscerai alcuni tempi verbali molto usati nella lingua italiana, di cui non ho parlato nel primo volume. Anche in questo libro ti farò vedere come potrai considerare la grammatica in modo semplice e simpatico, seppure accurato.

Ad accompagnarci lungo il percorso ci saranno le mappe mentali alla Tony Buzan che ti permetteranno di avere un quadro globale di ciò che ti dico nel libro. E alla fine, come ciliegina sulla torta, troverai una versione aggiornata del metodo che suggerisco di usare per imparare molto velocemente l’italiano (oppure qualsiasi altra lingua). Ma porta pazienza…Perché, per dirla come un famoso proverbio, a volte la fretta è cattiva consigliera. Ci avvicineremo a tutto ciò che vogliamo raggiungere un passo alla volta in modo semplice ed efficace.

Di tanto in tanto, ma non sempre, nel corso del libro inserirò qualche piccola storia, o parte di essa. Ho deciso di farlo di proposito, perché penso che le storie possano essere utili a trasferirti un messaggio positivo e in più, se leggerai questo libro dall’inizio alla fine, senza saltare nulla, ti aiuteranno, grazie ai cicli che apriranno, a interiorizzare tutto ciò che c’è in mezzo. Per ora ti chiedo di fidarti di me… Fidati di me! Tutto ciò che farò in questo libro avrà un senso e lo scoprirai quando avrai finito di leggerlo e / o di ascoltarlo(magari più di una volta)e il tuo italiano sarà migliorato drasticamente.

Proprio mentre scrivo queste righe mi torna in mente una bellissima storia che ho letto qualche anno fa. E voglio cominciare a condividerla con te, non tutta però!

C'era una volta…Cosi cominciano tutte le favole…

E immagina ora un vedovo che ha due giovani figli, molto intelligenti, un maschio e una femmina. Questi due ragazzi sono così curiosi di tutto, che fanno tantissime domande. Domande, domande, domande. E anche se il loro padre riesce a rispondere ad alcune delle loro domande, ce ne sono molte alle quali non sa proprio rispondere. E comincia a pensare che abbiano bisogno di qualcuno che possa farlo. Allora, sai che cosa decide di fare, caro lettore (o cara lettrice)- o caro ascoltatore (o cara ascoltatrice)? L’uomo decide di mandarli a vivere con il vecchio saggio che vive sulla collina. In questo contesto è normale che si faccia così. Perciò i due ragazzi vanno a vivere con il vecchio saggio sulla collina. E lì continuano a fare domande. Domande, domande, domande. Ma a differenza del padre, il vecchio saggio ha sempre una risposta. Riesce a rispondere ad ogni singola domanda che i due ragazzi gli fanno.

Where are you with Italian?

If you are reading or listening to this book, you may have already done something with the Italian language, you may have read the other book titled The secrets of the Italian language and once you reached the end [of it], you wanted to read more. Or maybe not… What are your personal reasons for reading or listening to this book? Think about it now. Why are you reading another book about the learning of the Italian language?

Only you can know them, I, instead, can only imagine them. And I can think that after reading or listening to the first volume you may like to have more explanations about Italian grammar, or more advice to learn this beautiful language faster; or even something else (that is) interesting which may motivate you in your very personal path toward the mastery of the Italian language; because, if you are reading or listening to this book, I can deduce that you want to speak Italian very well. And do you know what is the very first question that I ask every student of mine when I meet him for the first time?

I will tell you in the next paragraph, for now let me tell you also that this book can be used in several ways.

The first is that of considering it like a manual to read and put into practice. And in this case you will be able to read it in Italian or in English according to your level of comprehension of the Italian language.

Because in this book you will have, as you have already noticed, two versions, one in Italian – the language you are about to master – and one in English – maybe your mother tongue, or a language that at the moment you may speak a little better than Italian. And it’s you who can choose which one to read. I don’t want to ask you to make a daily fixed appointment with this book if you really can’t, but you have to know that in creating it I thought of it as a text to read and listen to daily from the beginning to the end, in the proposed order. Once in a while I will ask you to do some exercises… If you want to speak Italian very well, do them (lit.: it) immediately or when you read the book again, anyway do them (it)! One piece of advice is mandatory though: read or listen to it a little each day.I don’t know how much for you is a little a day, maybe 5 minutes, or 10, or perhaps 15. Don’t exaggerate: a little and often is better than a lot and all at once.

The second way to use this book is that of considering it like a little course to learn Italian in Italian! Oh, yes! That’s right: you will find many little (or big) ideas, techniques and stories that will help you absorb Italian at a deeper level. Eh??? How is all that possible? You can discover it only by going on with the reading or listening of the book. Why do I also speak about listening to the book? Beside the written version, I thought, like almost always in my books, to read it aloud so that you are exposed to the pronunciation of Italian; because I think that listening or perhaps listening at the same time as reading can favour the learning. And you? What do you think about it? Do you think that this can help you? Whatever your answer, you must know that an essay titled Reading + Listening has recently been published; it explains scientifically how this double exposure can help the learning of languages… And that’s not all. But this is another story. So, keep on reading and/or listening!

Before moving on with the reading and especially with the listening, I want to give you a piece of advice. Stop the reading and the listening any time you need to think about something that has stimulated you or any time you want to do an exercise I suggest. Please, use the pause function of your mp3 player (or any other device you use to listen and concentrate on the sound of my voice), also because often in the audio I won’t be able to give you the right pause length you need.

And now, as you continue reading or listening, or both, you may think again of a time when you learned of something very pleasant to you. Oh yes, a pleasant learning experience. I know that many may have also had not such beautiful learning experiences, but for now I am asking you to concentrate on a pleasant learning experience, perhaps when you learned something (anything!) and it was easy and fun. It may have occurred recently or a long long long long time ago. In any time of your life this pleasant learning experience may have occurred, recall it (to your mind) remembering what you saw in that moment. Or better still, let’s do a better thing: imagine that it is happening right now. What are you seeing? What are you listening to? What noises are there? Are there any voices? What do they say? What feelings are you feeling in this moment? And as you feel these feelings, realize that in the past you have already learned many things, also beautiful, that make you feel good. And you can do it with the Italian language too: can you imagine all the joy that speaking Italian very well can give you? Have you done it? If so, you are ready to go on reading (or listening). Otherwise stop for a moment and remember a pleasant learning experience, with all your senses and only after doing it, go on.

Before telling you what’s the very first question that I ask all my students, I just have to tell you how this book is organised.

There are three parts. In the first we’ll deal together with your motivation, you will learn the game of the positive but and we’ll talk about beliefs.

In the second part I’ll introduce you to some lessons I created to acquire the language, instead of learning it. Do you know what the difference is? You will find some lessons I created for some students who wanted to learn Italian with their whole body and you will be invited to do what you are listening to! And you will discover how easy it is to remember words if you use your body to do it. Then you’ll know the method of stories and questions applied to the Italian language.

In the third part we’ll continue coping with and overcoming the hurdles of Italian grammar, you will especially know (about) some verbal tenses often used in the Italian language, of which I haven’t talked in the first volume. Also in this
