About this ebook

The longtime knitter and vintage fashion expert puts a contemporary twist on classic knit babywear in this beautifully photographed pattern book.

While working as a vintage clothing dealer, combing through estate sales and eBay listings, longtime knitter Kristen Rengren amassed hundreds of knitting pattern booklets from 1920 through 1960. Now a knitwear designer, Rengren brings us the result of her combined passions in Vintage Baby Knits, a charming collection of more than 40 contemporary updates of timeless baby patterns.

Projects range from small, quick-to-knit items like hats, booties, and shrugs to larger, more challenging designs for sweaters, onesies, and dresses, including a lace christening gown. Beautiful photographs capture a bevy of adorable babies and toddlers wearing these knitted treasures. Also included are sidebars on baby fashion and knitting culture in this bygone era, and a complete reference section. Destined to be a classic itself, Vintage Baby Knits promises family heirlooms for 21st-century babies.

This is a fixed-format ebook, which preserves the design and layout of the original print book.

To begin with, let me say that this is a beautiful book. The style of it is perfect for the content, the binding well done and the photos could not be any better. Everything is photographed well and explained thoroughly. With that out of the way, let me tell you about the real meat of the book - the patterns. There are an abundance of them, representing many eras. Valuable page space is not wasted on teaching you knitting basics again; if you're buying a big pattern book, it is rightly assumed that you know how. She does dedicate part of the book to explaining how to translate old patterns yourself, and I found that very helpful. There is a good range of styles and sizes presented, from newborn up through toddler. Toys, blankets, clothing, all find a home within.I do not even have children, or any to knit for, but I am more than happy that I bought this book. It is truly excellent. The best knitting book I have purchased, hands down.

I've fallen hard for almost every pattern in the book. Please look past that almost every baby model is blond haired and blue eyed. These are classic vintage patterns updated for the modern yarn and knitter. I just can't decide what to knit first!
