    Healthy Life - Prasad Kulkarni

    Summary

    Chapter 1

    What is Health?

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.

It further says that health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

This means that when all three - body, mind and social life - are in good shape, one is called healthy.

If any of these three components of health are disturbed, one does not feel well.

If somebody is not feeling well, he or she should go or should be taken to a doctor.

Self-diagnosis and self-medication are not good ideas and can lead to many disasters.

Ignoring early warning signs can be dangerous.

A disease may progress to severe levels.

One should seek treatment immediately with a medically qualified doctor.

All medicines should be taken as per the doctor’s advice.

The course of treatment should be completed as advised by the doctor.

Stopping medicines in between because ’the symptoms disappeared’ can be dangerous and misleading.

Of course, it is important that to remain healthy, one should take good care of his body, mind and social life.
