Miranda is duty-bound to journey across the Damned Plains to rescue the Princess of York from ruination. Her selfish cousin doesn't deserve her help, but the mission offers an opportunity to escape the smothering confines of life as an indentured companion to a spoiled princess.

Danner is a journeyman, a traveler with an extraordinary gift: the ability to withstand the deadly lightning bolts sent by moody gods. Drawn by her lush beauty, he agrees to guide Miranda across the Plains if she'll let him explore her body each night.

They face dangerblood ravens, cannibals, mechanical spydersbut Danner never anticipated that the bigger risk would be from Miranda and the things she makes him feel. A journeyman's life doesn't lend itself to commitment, but if they can rescue the princess and make it out of the Plains without getting zapped or eaten, Danner might have to make an exception for one amazing woman. Sometimes when writing reviews, I feel like a curmudgeon repeatedly shouting the same phrase at the whippersnappers on the lawn, but here I go again anyway: take your time, slow down, spend more time thinking and writing and editing! There are a lot of really interesting concepts used in this story that I wish had been developed further. I could easily see this as a novel-length story with a little more time. I liked the steampunk elements combined with the author's take on Norse mythology, I thought it was clever combination and resulted in a world I want to find more about. I also liked Miranda and Danner's relationship and how they learn to grow and trust each other throughout their journey. I just wish we got to spend more time with them along the way.The ending as a whole felt rushed. I mean the way it was plotted was interesting, but the writing was more formulaic and less rich than earlier parts of the story. (Slow down! Take your time!) And the last sex scene... er, let's just say I was thinking more about cross-contamination and lubrication than I was about love and romance. Those few details aside, this was an engaging story and a fun world. I'm looking forward to reading the next in what I'm assuming will be a series. This review is based on an electronic ARC received via NetGalley.

This was a really interesting book that fused steampunk, erotica, and Norse mythology. Unlike most erotica stories, this had a really great plot to it. The characters are well drawn. I have not read any of Marie Harte’s other books. I will be going back to check them out though. Now as I noted above, this is an erotica book. So if you do not like scenes that are sexually explicit, then you should shy away from this book. However, if you like things to get hot and heavy in your reading materials, then this is definitely a winner. One of my new found loves is all things steampunk. I have only read a handful of steampunk stories and I have loved all of them, including this one. In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review. No other compensation has been received. My statements are an honest account of my experience with the brand. The opinions stated here are mine alone.
