About this ebook
Now Judith Viorst looks at what it's like to be (gulp) fifty.
Writing with the warmth and authenticity that have become her trademarks, Viorst once again demonstrates her uncanny ability to transform our daily realities into poems that make us laugh with recognition. Whether her subject is the decline of the body ("It's hard to be devil-may-care/When there are pleats in your derrière") or future aspirations ("Before I go, I'd like to have high cheekbones./I'd like to talk less like New Jersey, and more like Claire Bloom"), she always speaks directly to our condition. Her funny, compassionate poems shed a reassuring light on the fine art of aging, and will delight anyone who is now (or forever) fifty.
Judith Viorst
Judith Viorst is the author of the beloved Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which has sold some four million copies; the Lulu books, including Lulu and the Brontosaurus; the New York Times bestseller Necessary Losses; four musicals; and poetry for children and young adults. Her most recent books of poetry include What Are You Glad About? What Are You Mad About? and Nearing Ninety.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good for some smiles. Short and fun.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm not a great poetry lover or frequent reader of poetry. However, I have always found Ms. Viorst's poetry to be excellent for capturing the realities of life. I loved this book and immediately bought two more copies to give to my girlfriends who turned fifty the same year I did. I'm almost looking forward to turning sixty so I can buy Suddenly Sixty.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As always, Judith's insight into life changes and various eras of a woman's life is absolutely on target. And funny.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Judith Viorst's verses capture the pleasures and pains of reaching one's half century. Warm and witty they made me laugh at myself, and I kept saying to friends "Listen to this, you must let me read you this..."

Forever Fifty - Judith Viorst
You Say You Want to Know How Old I Am?
I don’t mind telling my age. I
honestly don’t mind telling my age.
But why are you asking?
I don’t pretend I’m still young. I
don’t expect to be thought of as young.
So why are you asking?
I never lie about age. It’s
undignified to lie about age.
But why are you asking?
We’re only as old as we feel. You
know we’re only as old as we feel.
So why are you asking?
I’m told I look good for my age. I’m
often told I look good for my age.
Now why are you asking?
No, I’m not ashamed of my age. And
if you insist, I’ll tell you my age.
You’re what? Still asking?
