INTRODUCTION

The word of God is the channel through which will come everything you need and want in your life. God is the Source of all things and everything He creates, He creates with His word.

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Hebrews 11:3)

Just as the universe, all that we know, was created by His word, so all good things in your life will come through His word. Health, success, freedom, joy, peace, love, faith, character, divine nature, and so on, all come to you through the word of God.

Not only is God a creator, but He is a revealer too. He reveals Himself by speaking. That’s why the Bible, the written word of God, is the most valuable thing that you can hold in your hands. God will reveal Himself to you through what He has said.

Sometimes, when people start reading the Bible, they feel as though they don’t understand much of it. To them it’s like 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle of which they can’t find any two pieces that fit together. With a puzzle, once a patch or two are assembled, the rest of the pieces come together more quickly and easily, revealing the image printed on them. Similarly, an understanding of what the Bible is and what it says about itself, will give you an inkling of its contents and something to add pieces to. The stunningly beautiful image therein will form before your eyes.

CHAPTER 1

WHAT IS THE WORD?

What existed before time began?

By what did all things come into being?

What is upholding all things?

By what is a person born again?

What sustains life?

What is like a fire and a hammer?

What accomplishes what God pleases?

What is living, powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword?

What makes you free?)

Answer: Jesus, also known as the Word.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-4, 14)

Many times in the Old Testament is the phrase The word of the Lord came to me saying… In these cases and others, we can see by the context that the word means simply message. However, in the first few verses of John quoted above, the Word refers to Jesus, and many Bible translators capitalize Word because of that.

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:1-2)

In the light of these first few verses in Hebrews that explain that Jesus is God’s message to us, it’s quite appropriate that he be called the Word.

Sometimes the word of God refers to the written record of the things that God has said. People are using this meaning when they call the Bible, also known as the scripture, the word of God.

THE WORD! THE WORD! THE WORD!

You know how some memories never seem to fade much? One such memory of mine is about what happened in a church foyer on a comfortable sunny day. The doors were open, the bright mountain desert sunlight shining on the sidewalk outside reflecting onto the white walls of the foyer. A half a dozen people or so were standing near the water fountain. Someone asked a young lady named Patty, How was the seminar? She jumped up and down and joyfully exclaimed

"The Word!

The Word!

The Word!"

I sensed that she had discovered or rediscovered that the Bible is both absolutely vital and a source of great joy. It is my prayer that this book will cause the same reaction in you.

God’s word is life. Everything that we know, came into being by the Word. We are born again by His Word. All life is sustained by His Word. The universe is held together by His word. We are transformed by His word.

The Word!

The Word!

The Word!
