About this ebook

In a world that is reminiscent of a Philip K.Dick novel since the US Presidential 2016 election, or this story here where a world famous surgeon helps his missing son’s best friend. Only to find that his actions lead to monumental changes in the United States and as well around the world. All in ways he would never have foreseen.

This was my first ever published short story back in 1990 but is somewhat prophetic as of the 2016 US Presidential election.

In Memory, Yet Crystal Clear is a story about how a dystopian society came to be in the United States by way of one man. How his brilliant experiments led to America being subverted from the land of the free, to the land of the mentally deranged, all though good intentions and a misbegotten belief in just what America needed.

In an allegory of what popularism can do to an entire country, this story shares the inside view from one science fiction perspective, one ideal, one man's ability to share the most intimate of things with an entire nation, without anyone ever knowing or seeing what might be happening.

Except for one man....

I turned on my iSet, somewhat reflexively. Not that I was unaware of the program for which all the world was waiting. Rather, there came up from the depths of my inner being, a desire never to watch again that which I had already so intimately experienced, had lived so painfully through. So often have I heard mention of it that it seems like only a moment ago. If only it could be passed along now, far beyond to the ages. Far beyond perhaps, the ages of Humanity.

Yet, what would that really accomplish?

    *

A wish made to a before-God graced my lips. Could I only but again speak directly with Peter. Face, to flesh-and-blood face. The iSet blared chromatically into my tired eyes, coloring the dark corners of my home-media room. With some small degree of guilt, just until the show was over, I shut down my other communications screens for some peace and quiet.

I muted my social media monitors but I could see the social universe was all atwitter over the upcoming program. Because of my status as a world renowned surgeon and my association with Peter, my social media rating was about as high as one could go.

Just about everyone now was on THE social media site to be seen on. Called, UNIsee, it was built, maintained and secured by the United Nations. This time it really was free. Allowing by international proclamation for people the world over, unfettered access to one another. It replaced the free market version of a once very popular social media tool that everyone had been using anyway. That older and now defunct version had cost so many, in the billions, so dearly when their private data had been abused, misused, diverted and disseminated for ulterior and covert purposes, was a situation when nearly a decade later, many were still paying for it.

In this newer, better maintained and more highly secured version, using UN acquired volunteers, their time donated by some of the biggest high tech software companies in the world, a next generation social media platform was designed and built, this time for all citizens everywhere, across the entire world.

It had become a warning sign should any country cut its people off from the site, immediately the Blue Hats, the UN Peacekeeping forces made up of an international melange of soldiers, would immediately mobilize and head for the offending country. Only then did the talking start. It had been highly effective now for many years.

It goes without saying that Peter has implemented several new and interesting systems with his position. Like facial recognition everywhere on public surveillance cameras. He can now compile data on infidelities, perversions, abuse, and so on. We no longer need ID cards as facial recognition handles it far more effectively. Much good has actually been accomplished. He can recognize criminals immediately on the street. Hardly anyone now escapes their criminal actions. Social credit scores are now basically our personal reputations.

This had all started in China and Dubai. They were the leaders. But Peter took it over and perfected it, escalated it here. He is our, he is The Big Data Cyber Deity. His applied statistics have turned his predictions into pure magic, prognostication, even prediction. The effects of police body cams and others has enhanced the use of big data, taking FR, that is facial recognition, to new and amazing heights. Our
