Reviews for Tin Soldier

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A young man, Jim Webb, from Canada, travels to Nashville to begin a music career. However, he has another mission and the music must take a back seat to the mission of trying to find out the truth about his grandfather. After finding some passports and couple of identity cards with different names, but the same photo. His search for whether his grandfather was a traitor or spy or something else, brings him into contact with interesting people, different cities, and danger. The story is interesting and once started, is difficult to put down. The title come from an old folk song referred to in the story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the fourth book I've read in this series and probably my favourite so far. An excellent, exciting adventure for teens. This book deals with the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War, secrets, spies and the CIA. A fast-paced read that was a real page-turner for me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Aspiring musician, Canadian born Jim Webb is on the hunt for information. After his grandfather's death Webb finds documents that indicates his grandfather was involved in spying during the Vietnam War. Webb enlists a variety of characters in his quest to find the answers to put his mind at ease about his grandfather's honesty. This book deals with civil rights, honesty, dishonesty and building trust with people unlike oneself. I would highly recommend this book for high school reading.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Jim Webb is in possession of two military identification cards. One problem, there are two names but it looks like the same guy on both. These cards and other things have led Jim and his cousins (who are featured in the other books of the series) to quest to find the answer to one question. Was Grandpa a spy or a traitor? Jim's quest leads him to a Vietnam vet who seems a little feisty in the beginning. After the Vet decides to help and makes some inquiries about the names on the cards, this book really became hard to put down. This is the second part of Webb's story but you don't need to have read the first one to enjoy this one, because I haven't read the first one yet either.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5After finding a fake passport and suspicious US Military photo ID cards hidden in his deceased grandfather's cabin, Jim Webb heads out on a quest to discover his grandfather's secret past and involvement in the Vietnam war. A great story about family loyalty and bonds between people of different backgrounds and generations. The author also includes snippets of Canadian football trivia. A recommended read.
