36 Week Jam Session
()
About this ebook
Musicians have multi-person jam session with a range of instruments; I had a solo jam session with a range of writing prompts. While in a homeschool writing course, I had to write a story a week for 36 weeks, and that was pretty cool. The result was a 36 story anthology. Take the survey at the end of the book to vote on which short story should be expanded into a book. Also look at the link to the writing course to see which short stories were the prompts to the stories I wrote. Let yourself cruise through emotions like surprise, shock, suspense, joy, love, and contentment. Are you ready?

Daring Mary
Whoosh! All my books suddenly flew off my shelf. I was in my bedroom, peacefully reading a book by flashlight when I heard a loud crash.
Get a life, girl!
An eerie but familiar sound became audible.
Who are you? What are you--?
Ha! Classic questions! You know full well who this is. I’ll answer the latter one soon enough.
Mary?? You just ruined my book collection! I had them all organized and sorted by educational factor!!
Mary’s voice became less audible as it flew over to the other side of the room. Books, smooks, Norma, come over here.
Norma went over to the picture of her deceased sister Mary. From now on, I will only talk to you through my picture. Sounds weird? It definitely is. Anyway, you are one stuck up little runt and your actions need to be stopped.
What? No way! Not this time of night!
You’re right. How ‘bout tomorrow?
No, I’m fine. Aren’t you supposed to be in Heaven right now? Go there!
I will, don’t worry, but I would like to dare you two times first.
Dares?!? Two of them? You’re insane!
Mary ignored Norma, Starting tomorrow after school I want you to...you know what, I’ll tell you tomorrow. Get some sleep, kiddo, you’ll need it.
The room fell silent. After a moment, Norma shook the picture, Hello! My books?
One hundred books got picked up and sorted (by educational factor, of course) just the way Norma wanted them.
****
Promptly after school, Norma walked to the library and the picture she had in her purse started talking, Could you please open this purse?
Norma opened it. Ok, first dare....
Right then a truck went by, but Norma managed to hear the dare. What???
It’s ok, sis, loosen up!
So Norma walked up to a random girl.
Hi!
Norma smiled.
Hi! What’s your name?
Katrina.
Hi Katrina!
I’m not Katrina.
What?
No,
Norma laughed, Katrina’s my cat, I’m Norma; I love my cat so much that I name myself after her sometimes! So, what’s your name?
The girl laughed, Kerry. You’re funny, are you the prank-girl type?
No, but,
What she was going to say was out of the script
, I like the word ‘no’. In fact, it’s in my name.
Kerry laughed,
Hey, do you like Harry Potter? I’m gonna check out one of the books to read again. Would you like to join me?
HP is cool! Sure!
****
The second dare consisted of Norma singing a song in fake Chinese and asking her friends to sing along. Hilarity ensued.
The third dare was harder and serious. She had to tell her parents she loved them.
Mom, Dad...I...love you. I love you!! Thank you for all you’ve done for me!
She hugged them.
Oh, we love you, too!
I know I haven’t told you that in a long time!
Norma felt a hand on her shoulder,
Hey, dare yourself from time to time!
And Mary departed.
