Sealed Fate - Charles K. Stanley

    York

    Introduction

As a student of the Bible, I suppose the barriers to understanding some scriptures are not unique to myself, and can be quite frustrating at times. Anyone who has worked diligently to grasp some of the deeper passages of the Word has encountered what I mean.

This work, (it is my hope), will be of assistance to some toward their efforts. When I discovered and was allowed to understand this key ingredient to proper interpretation, my studies became rich and alive with greater clarity and knowledge. The clarity came forth via the words of Isaiah that even explained why parts of the Bible were so obscure and foggy. I firmly believe that to ignore this principle of understanding and knowledge is to our own disadvantage.

I invite you to explore this principle with me as I explain what it is, and then demonstrate its application and usage to assist us with proper interpretation. May God bless this work and our understanding. A discovery is in store. Let me repeat: I firmly believe, to ignore this information could be to our own peril. That is a claim that I don’t take lightly.

The message presented here, as a result and demonstration of how we should excavate the true meaning of obscure Biblical scripture, will be shocking to many. It has been shocking to me. Even though this presentation is only a brief example of how to rightly divide the truth, by adhering to these methods of study presented by the prophet Isaiah, we can move forward with much greater clarity regarding all passages of scripture. The focus, here, is on one of the most debated and fascinating portions of Biblical prophecy: Revelation chapters 17 and 18.

I lay no claim to know all about all subjects of the Holy Bible. I am a layman. A sinner saved by the grace of God; by the shed blood of my Lord Jesus Christ. These two chapters of Revelation have been an intense focus study of mine since the early ‘80’s.

    Part I

Chapter One - The Principal of Precepts

In Isaiah 28:9 and 10, it states: Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.

    Also Verse 13:

But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. . .

Now, to begin with, I do not ordinarily use the word precept in my everyday vocabulary, so I looked it up. Bear with me while I give you the definition, in summary, as it has many facets.

Precept – Teachings, patterns, laws, concepts, thought patterns and/or direction established beforehand as a guide, and/or reference point, a commandment, (computers have pre-set commands that guide them in a particular direction), a pre-established concept.

With this, I then proceeded to adhere to these passages as meaning just what they say. I took them literally. The understanding of the message is not given to babes in the study of the word, or those just scanning over the material, but to the diligent, or, weaned from the milk. There are deeper levels. Those who seek shall find. The message is not always understood in context of the passages around it, only; but the precepts are planted throughout the word, here a little, there a little, and the precepts must be adhered to. The teachings, concepts, and thoughts established beforehand as a guide.

As the Word states: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding, (Prov. 3:5). Let the Bible interpret itself, whenever possible. And it will, many more times than we give it credit for. These interpretations are not private.

To sum this point up: if we are examining a prophecy for the future, for example; we should study any prior references to the terms and phrases utilized. Examine the precepts if we can find them, and thereby gain greater understanding of the scriptures in question.

If the passage mentions any words used before, examine them and their prior context for clues to understanding. This is stacking information line upon line, precept upon precept as we find them, here a little, there a little. When we do this, a picture of immense clarity emerges. Without this element of obedience, we find ourselves in a sea of decoys and wrong turns. This is by design per Isaiah. (Isaiah 28:13):

But the word of the Lord was to them, (speaking to the people of Ephraim), Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they might go and fall backward, and be broken and snared and caught.

So let us avoid these traps and stumbling blocks. The word of God opens up when one begins to practice the application of precepts and the methods of study learned in the book of Isaiah! The tools that we have available at our disposal today, to assist us in
