About this ebook

When Yua the talking West Highland White Terrier fails to stop his master, Gwydion, from being wizardnapped, there’s nobody to help him look for his lost wizard. That is, until he meets Lattie; a small girl with a big heart, and a secret she didn’t even know she had.

Why was Gwydion wizardnapped? What is Lattie’s secret? Most importantly: can a small dog and a little girl answer these questions and rescue a wizard all by themselves?

Victoria Zigler

Victoria Zigler is a blind vegan poet and children's author. Born and raised in the shadow of the Black Mountains of Wales, UK, she moved away from Wales three times: once to spend six months living in Alberta, Canada, the other times to spend a few years living near Hastings on the South-East coast of England, UK, each time returning to Wales. Now she lives in Wales again, along with a chinchilla named Mollie, a West Highland White Terrier named Lilie, a Cavapoo named Logan, a Hermann’s Tortoise named Artemis, and her Canadian husband, Kelly.Despite spending far too much time in hospital, and eventually losing her sight to Congenital Glaucoma, Victoria - or Tori, if you prefer - has been writing since she knew how, with no plans to stop any time soon. So far she has published 11 poetry books and 46 children’s books. Tori is also a contributor of the sci-fi and fantasy anthology Wyrd Worlds II, as well as the Poetry Treasures anthology. Additionally, her Hermann’s Tortoise, Artemis, was featured in both the Magnificent Pets Coloring Book For Children and the Magnificent Pets Mandala Coloring Book For Adults.Vegan due to both a love for animals and dairy allergy, as well as an Eclectic Pagan, Tori describes herself as a combination of Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter books: Hermione’s thirst for knowledge and love of books, combined with Luna’s wandering mind and alternative way of looking at the world. She has a wide variety of interests, designed to exercise both the creative and logical sides of her brain, and dabbles in them at random depending on what she feels like doing at any given time, but is most likely to be found playing with her petkids, curled up somewhere with a cup of tea and a book, or trying to keep one step ahead of those pesky typo fairies while writing her own books.

    Prologue

Yua the West Highland White Terrier was exhausted. His pointed ears, which usually stuck straight up, were flat against his head, his white fur was filthy and matted, and his tail was drooping. He’d been walking for days, and his paws were aching from it. He was also very hungry and thirsty.

Before today Yua hadn’t been out alone, and it wasn’t his choice to be out alone now. But his master had thrown him out, making it perfectly clear he wasn’t to come back, and every time he tried to go home he had something thrown at him. So, after nearly being hit by various household objects – including books, shoes, and a scrubbing brush - Yua had given up trying to go home. Now he was searching for somewhere else to live. Or, at least, somewhere he could rest for a while.

Finally, too exhausted to go on, Yua collapsed in a heap of matted white fur in a ditch at the side of the road, panting heavily and wondering how things had come to this. A dog with his talents shouldn’t be sprawled in a ditch too exhausted to go on. It was bad enough when that happened to ordinary dogs, but Yua was far from ordinary.

Some time later, when Yua was starting to think he was going to die in that ditch, he heard footsteps coming along the previously deserted road.

Help, Yua tried to shout, but even he struggled to hear it, and he was sure whoever was walking past wouldn’t be able to hear his desperate plea.

Luckily for Yua, however, the person spotted him laying there and came over to investigate.

You poor little thing, said a man’s voice, and someone bent down to get a better look at the little dog. You are alive? the voice asked, sounding surprised, and Yua found himself being poked and prodded as the man attempted to check to see how badly hurt he was.

It wasn’t very pleasant, but Yua was too weak to do anything about it. Then the man must have decided it was fine to move him, because Yua suddenly felt himself being picked up and knew he was being carried in the man’s
