About this ebook

When Donovan Ramsey comes home from yet another business trip he realizes he and his long-term boyfriend, Nate Pearson, have drifted apart. Donovan is used to engineering solutions in his career, but he’s stumped on how to fix his dwindling sexual relationship with Nate.

After a late night internet search, Donovan finds a place that might be exactly what they need to rekindle the romance in their relationship. There’s just one catch: the idyllic Cooper Mountain Bed and Breakfast specializes in BDSM for couples.

Over the course of the weekend, the two men experience a taste of what the BDSM lifestyle has to offer. Will that taste lead to a stronger connection between Nate and Donovan, or will it ultimately be their undoing?

    Chapter One

    Donovan

Donovan looked up from the report he was reading through when he heard the sound of keys at the front door. A quick glance at the clock made his shoulders sag. 8:17 PM. Nate, his boyfriend of five years, stayed at school to catch up on things many nights, but this was late for him. When he walked in the apartment, Nate tossed his keys on the counter and dropped his bag near the breakfast table.

Hey there. You look exhausted. Long day?

Hey, D. Too long. Back in a sec. I want to get out of these clothes so I can relax, Nate mumbled as he made his way to the bedroom to change.

Donovan leaned back from his laptop with a tired sigh and rubbed his eyes. He’d just returned from one project only to see emails regarding another in a tenuous state. It meant yet another trip, which his exhausted brain didn’t want to contemplate. Constant travel took its toll on his mind, and his body needed a break from the jet lag.

He pushed all thoughts of possible travel aside to focus on his partner. Donovan had always been the caretaker in their relationship, always needing to be in control and sure Nate was happy and content. Nate had never asked for him to do any of it. Donovan simply did it because it came natural to him and Nate deserved it and so much more. He went into the kitchen to take the lasagna that Nate had made over the weekend out of the refrigerator. As Donovan reheated a slice in the microwave, he poured a glass of wine, setting it and some silverware on the breakfast table.

Donovan smiled as Nate leaned in to give him a quick peck on his way to the wine glass sitting on the table.

    Thanks for heating up dinner.

His heart clenched at how tired his boyfriend looked. Nate’s sunny disposition and devotion to his job kept him going. He rarely complained about the long hours he put in at school, but Donovan knew he was silently counting down the hours until summer vacation. I knew you’d be late, but I didn’t think you’d be this late. You really should tell them you need a raise.

Nate snickered and took a deep drink of his wine. Sure. I’ll get right on that. Right after I lobby for more supplies, adequate funding for the conferences I want to attend, and the margarita machine for the teacher’s lounge. Maybe they’ll pay for Jell-O wrestling and I’ll bring my partner to work that day. I bet I could get you into a speedo.

Donovan chuckled as he poured a glass of wine for himself and brought the steaming plate of lasagna over to the table. I’m sure productivity would go up exponentially if you got the margarita machine approved. The other stuff, I’m not too sure about.

With a nod, Nate dove into his meal, and Donovan sighed at dark circles under his boyfriend’s blue eyes. Donovan couldn’t remember when Nate had taken a day off from work. Sure they had the weekends to themselves, but Nate spent part of that time grading papers or working on lesson plans. Donovan’s own work schedule wasn’t much better. He had late nights with other contractors, trips abroad to supervise projects, and Saturday morning meetings that often stretched into the afternoon. Donovan loved his job as a mechanical engineer and had worked years to get to this point in his career, but he hated how it kept him away from Nate. They had both hit the wall months ago and were just too tired to recognize the signs of exhaustion.

Want to talk about it?  Donovan looked at Nate as he ate silently. His partner was usually easygoing, but the relaxed chatter that normally existed between them had become more infrequent as the weeks passed. Nate sighed and slipped off his glasses to rub his eyes.

We had a staff meeting that ran long because, apparently, we’re using too much copy paper. Then I had a few extra students in my study session ask if they could stay for help on the essay portion of the exam. I still have some papers to grade, but I told the students not to expect them until the end of the week.

The plate of lasagna disappeared in no time, and as Nate rose to bring his dishes to the sink, Donovan tugged on his arm to stop him. Why don’t you head up to bed and I’ll finish up the dishes? After I’m done, maybe I’ll rub some of that tension out of your shoulders before you fall asleep.

Thanks, D. Nate smiled in gratitude and dropped a brief kiss on Donovan’s lips then headed for the stairs.

Clean up went quickly, and when Donovan entered their bedroom ten minutes later, Nate was already in bed with a book propped on his lap. His sandy blond hair was longer than he’d ever worn it, brushing over his crystal blue eyes. Donovan stopped long enough to admire how Nate’s t-shirt clung to his lean but defined chest, his naturally tan skin contrasting perfectly against the stark white cotton material. How had he gotten so lucky that Nate had chosen him?

I was out in the field today, so I’m going to hit the shower first. Any chance you want to join me?

Nate glanced up from his book and shook his head, regret in his voice. I could use one, but I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep in the shower.

    Disappointed,
