    Acknowledgement

This series is dedicated to my amazing Katie-Cat. Ever since she was a little girl, she was always bringing home stray felines. Despite being scratched, bitten, peed on, and a mild case of ringworm, she has never met a cat that she hasn’t liked. If anyone deserves to find happily ever after in the arms of a handsome werecat, it’s her!

    Chapter One

Rachel, be a dear and fetch our drinks? Tanya offered one of her patented smiles. The kind that made men forget all of the times they'd already been burned, and made them want to jump back into ‘Stupidville’ again with both feet.

It was the smile Tanya had used to seduce Matt. But it didn't have the same effect on his sister. In fact, that smile made Rachel want to slap the overtly sexual blonde.

What the hell was wrong with Matt? Why couldn't he see this female piranha for what she was?

Rachel cast another miserable look towards the bar entrance, silently praying for a friendly face. Heidi and Morgan had both promised to come tonight.

She hadn't expected them to show up on time, but she was beginning to wonder if they'd forgotten about her entirely. It was hard to guess. Heidi was the queen of walking in fashionably late, but Morgan was so caught up in her new relationship with Leo, she was becoming almost as bad.

Rachel? The blue eyed skank asked again.

Sorry, I just saw someone that I've been needing to talk to, she lied and quickly scooted off from her barstool to hide within the crowd.

Why did Matt feel it was necessary for her to spend time with his obnoxious girlfriend anyway? She couldn’t imagine their relationship lasting more than year, at best. She just hoped that the next girl he picked wasn't so helpless, needy, and fake.

Peeking back over her shoulder, Rachel discovered that Tanya already had one strange guy hovering near her elbow, while a second was approaching with some kind of fruity drink concoction.

Tanya just couldn't help herself. She was the kind of woman that would never go home alone and would never have to sit by herself at a bar.

For just one heartbeat, Rachel allowed herself to feel a little jealous. But she quickly shook it off and marched out into the frozen November night.

Hopelessly, she searched the street and nearby cars, but there was no sign of her friends. With a heavy sigh she leaned back against the cold brick wall and stared up into the black sky.

There was no moon tonight and whatever stars might have been visible were hidden behind a thick blanket of winter clouds. They would probably have snow in the morning and the thought of waking up early to shovel out her car did not improve her mood.

She considered just going home and giving up on this whole miserable night, and immediately felt a twinge of guilt. Not because she cared a rat’s ass about the fake blonde she’d abandoned to the horny bar sharks inside, but because her brother had desperately hoped this evening might somehow bring together two of the most important women in his life.

It really bothered him that Tanya and Rachel couldn’t stand each other’s company for more than a few minutes at a time.

Damn it! She snarled at the heavens, watching her breath freeze into a silvery mist in front of her face. Her only choice was to march back into the bar and try her best not to commit homicide.

Are you alright? A deep voice asked from the shadows nearby and Rachel jumped in surprise, adrenaline spiking through her system.

A tall figure stepped into the light, but it did nothing to soothe her rattled nerves. Instead, she felt her heartbeat speed up and her breath catch. He was easily the sexiest man she’d ever seen.

Tall and elegant, with thick brown hair that was just long enough to curl at the nape of his neck. He had stunning blue eyes that seemed to catch the faint light from the bar sign above her, piercing the night despite its lack of moon or stars.

There was a sensual grace to the way that he approached. His lean muscles flexed and moved beneath the fitted jeans and t-shirt he wore, making her think of something predatory and feline, like a large panther.

He tipped his head, waiting for an answer, but she was still struggling to find her voice.

Let me help you back inside so you can sit down, he urged, touching her elbow, then taking a firmer grasp off her arm when she wobbled like a drunk on knees that
