Beyond the Words is the second anthology published by Scripting Change, a community writing initiative that aims to make a positive social difference. All of the work required to bring together this anthology was volunteered. This year's project highlights the importance of literacy and will support the nonprofits Read for Literacy, in Ohio; Literacy Action, in Georgia; and Page Ahead, in Washington, all of which foster literacy in their communities. 100% of proceeds* from this (and every) Scripting Change book are donated!

Scripting Change
Scripting Change is a community writing project, which aims to raise funds for nonprofit organizations. The basic idea is:- Writers (and a cover designer) donate their work, relating to a given project's theme, which reflects the mission of the recipient nonprofit- Coordinators donate their time to bring everything together into an e-book- The entire project has a $0 cost so...- 100% of each e-book's proceeds are donated to the nonprofit matched with that e-book

Foreword:
Words. Language. Understanding. These things are essential not only to our function in the day-to-day, but also, more importantly, to our quality of life. Yet there are so many people within this country and throughout the world that are deprived of that quality. Words give opportunity, open doors, and create worlds. They help us to connect, to reach through our individual lives and touch the minds and hearts of others.
When Anya asked me to introduce this year’s Scripting Change project, I’ll admit, it was a bit daunting. Literacy is of paramount significance. It seemed an insurmountable task to truly express the personal investment that I and those involved in this project have in conquering illiteracy.
This anthology is only possible because writers from all walks of life chose to contribute their words for the cause. Poured into every page is a story, a piece of that writer’s soul offered up to you as a testament to the power of literacy. Not surprisingly, no two of these works are quite the same. Some speak of learning, while others talk of communicating across the cosmos. Still others explore the lifelong impact of shared words.
Illiteracy impairs so many lives in so many different ways, from children to adults, in areas ranging from reading and communication, to computers and the workplace. Given that it is
