About this ebook
Raife Eriksson, centuries old balancer, is ready to retire from his covert job as Primary Helper and pretty soon he’ll be able to retire from life altogether. Unfortunately, some unforeseen events cause him to rethink his plans.
James Blackburne, formally a balancer, is ready to live out a normal life and make amends for the unfair hand he dealt to a loved one, Unfortunately, a moment of distraction and a resultant proposition alter his new life irrevocably.
Observer, mysterious being with an odd appearance and a contradictory mix of innocence and wisdom, has a solution for both men but it might only be a temporary one for one of them.

I want to write. I want to lose myself in compelling narratives and adventures as they unfold in my mind and spill onto pages which will invariably result in a book by the time I am done. Writing started for me as a way to pass the time whenever I ran out of reading material or wanted to get rid of excess creative energy (I was an artist specializing in the painting medium (still am). Before I knew it, I was in love with the new freedom I could find only by putting pen to paper (or rather, fingers to a key-board). I wanted to delineate the characters I had dreamed into existence on a two dimensional surface with 3D fluidity. I have no idea if I have succeeded in this initial feat, but now I mainly long to see where they will take me to next. Of course I want much more than that as writing the story is only the first step for me. I want to present my books to the world in a fashion that captures the market for which they were intended. I want intrepid readers to meet the characters I have fallen in love with and perhaps, fall in love with them too. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Catalyst is a novella which is a prelude to the second novel in a series. When I first started to read this prelude, I thought I was not going to be able to continue as too much was referenced about the previous first novel in the series and I felt that I was coming into the middle of a story with no explanation to help me understand what was going on before. But the characters and plot that I could understand were intriguing, so I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. I was completely drawn into this world, and I want to know more about it. The descriptions of the characters' thoughts and feelings were very realistic, and the premise of The Balancers and what they do is very interesting. I am planning on reading the first teaser and novel, and I will anxiously await the third one as well, and I hope that they fulfill the promise of a unique story line with well-developed characters that this novella depicts.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was fortunate to read The Eyes That See, but not The Legacy. So for me I knew the characters from the first prequel so to speak but not the story from Legacy. At first I was a little confused as I hadn't read the full novel but eventually it became a moot point. The short story here was interesting and with enough intrigue that I will now find the Legacy and read it so I know what the heck I just read! Sounds very interesting and it was enough to whet the appetite of a new reader! However if this was to be a teaser to gain more readers less detail is required on some characters so that it's not too overwhelming and the reader becomes disinterested.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is a short glimpse into the world the author has built. The characters are a secret organization who act as guardians in the world under the direction of mysterious aliens. As a short story in the middle of the series this work is a bit hard to understand if you are unfamiliar with the series. However, the author gives a tantalizing glimpse of an interesting world. The characters, although we are only briefly introduced to them, are interesting and three-dimensional.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I understood this book is a prelude and I enjoyed how the writer made the characters Raife Eriksson and James Blackburne very believeable . However I found myself having to go back and read previous pages again and again. The story inplaces just didn not flow for me and my mind just wandered.I do look forward to reading Legacy and book 2, thereby perhaps putting more of this book in prospective.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this book for the most part. Understanding that this book is a prequel to the next full-length book, I still thought that it was a little monotonous at some points. All in all, this was an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to the next book!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I don't know if it was my frame of mind at the time or what. I just couldn't get into the story. I found it confusing and disjointed. I really liked the previous book "Legacy", but didn't care for this. Hopefully I will find the next full length book in the series more to my liking.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoyable prelude to the next instalment of the balancer chronicles which I really look forward to reading. I hope somehow James continues to make an appearance.
