      Prologue

      Jake Carlson couldn’t stand people. He didn’t care about race, religion, political affiliation, or age. He despised everyone with the same intensity. Well almost everyone. As of late, women seemed to carry the brunt of his total disgust for humanity.

      Now, he was most certainly open minded enough to realize there had to be good people in the world somewhere. He just hadn’t met them yet, and figured the prospect unlikely at best.

      If one were to attempt to pinpoint a defining moment in Jake’s life--for instance the moment when his disdain for others came into effect--they’d be hard pressed to find anything of consequence. It was a long, slow process which led to Jake’s affliction. Why affliction, you say? Well, Jake was a sad little man. If you
