About this ebook

Detective Gates won’t let up, but that doesn’t sway London. She’s more in love with her bad guy than she’s ever been. And Victor proves his love for her over and over. But things aren’t as simple. Victor and London want to live their lives in peace, but there are still a few people who won’t let them just yet.

Once more Victor has to be the monster who will get rid of the bad guys. And once more he proves just how great of a man he really is even if the detective won’t admit to it. To judge without the full story wasn’t a good move on the detective’s part, but he’ll soon find out just how important Victor really is, not just to London, but to him as well.

Enjoyed the series. Questions? If London and Victor have children, and if they have as many as he wants, there is bound to be a son among them. Will London let Victor teach her son/sons the business? Will she let them become an arms dealer and vicious murderer? Can she live with that fact? She's skating on a very, very slippery slope. How will she rationalize her own male child/children becoming a monster? That would be an interesting read.

Chapter One

They had gone underground. That was what happened when the cat was out of the bag. The group dispersed and tried to live as quietly as possible. The king was down, which made it much more difficult for them to keep in touch. There had been worldwide news of the whole ordeal. All over the world, warehouses of children had shut down, and children were returned to their homes. Some of the children had been away from their families for years. But there were some children who hadn’t been found yet. Some who had been adopted and didn’t even remember being adopted.

It was only the tip of the iceberg, there were many like Russell all over the world, but it had sent a clear message to those who hadn’t been caught. Detective Gates was skating on cloud nine. Everyone around him had given him a lot more credit than he deserved. Only he knew the truth to everything. If it hadn’t been for Victor, Russell Beach wouldn’t have been found out. Gates had only come for the child, as far as he’d been concerned, he thought the Beaches had been an unsuspecting couple.

That had all changed of course when Victor had asked Bradley to do a little digging. That had landed Russell behind bars for a very long time, so it seemed. Mrs Beach had been lucky enough not to have known any of this, and she was let go, after a good lawyer had taken her case.

Life went on, well at least it seemed that way on the surface. Detective Gates was about to investigate the biggest criminal in the UK. In his mind, that title belonged to Victor Adamovich.

Victor Adamovich was the only son born to an English mother and a Russian father. The Adamovich family were one of the most powerful families in Europe. His father had taken Victor along at an early age, and had showed him the business. It never occurred to him that a child that young wasn’t and shouldn’t watch a father torture and kill people who had wronged him. But that was his life, that had been the ticket he’d been given, and his father expected him to carry on the business long after he was dead.

The family had been responsible for selling Arms at a very crucial time. When the world was unsettled and countries went to war with each other, his father made billions.  Victor’s father had played a very big part in the change of history, and he wanted his son to do the same.

Victor’s mother hadn’t been oblivious to what her husband did, but she supported him, after all, she loved him. She had tried the best she could to shield Victor from his father’s dark life, but it hadn’t been possible. He was the heir, there was no escaping that. And so it happened, when his father suddenly passed away of a heart attack – when Victor was only twenty-two years old- he was more than ready to take over. His heart had been hardened. He’d been trained not to feel sympathy for those who had wronged him. He’d learnt how to sharpshoot, how to torture and how to move on after a person was bleeding to death.

It seemed as though the man had no heart. His heart had been taken away at an early age, and had been replaced by steel. When his mother died a few years later, Victor was able to disconnect from love. His relationship with Nadine had been about lust! In fact, Victor didn’t believe he could love, he didn’t know what it felt like. But the moment he’d seen London in the photos, he knew that what he felt for her was different. He found that he wanted to do things for her to make her happy. Victor had always done things to make himself happy, but that had all changed, and he had London to thank for that.

That didn’t erase his past. He was still the man who could kill without thought, the man who had a big hand in supplying guns for war, and for other illegal activities. Could someone really love a man that dark? Detective Gates didn’t thinks so, this was why he was so determined to make London see Victor for who he was, before she fell too far for him.

The detective had spent the last few weeks trying to find out more about Victor. But Victor was a slippery fish. No one could ever keep track of his whereabouts, and it was hard to tell who didn’t work for him. He had found out little on Victor, but he wasn’t about to give up.

He sat back in his chair and thought a moment. He still had to convince the chief to allow him to pursue this. He had a lot more clout now. So far, he had a few things on Victor, but even those things wouldn’t stick. After a moment’s thought, he stood up. He’d speak to the chief.

‘Come in.’

Detective Gates entered the office.

‘Gates!’ He looked up from the screen. ‘What can I do for you?’

Gates pulled out a seat and sat down. ‘Do you remember when you said that I can choose my cases?’

‘I do, you earned it.’ The chief was still impressed with what he’d done.

‘I think I know what I want to investigate next. I’ve been looking into it for a while now, but now I’d like your go ahead.’

‘I’m listening.’ The chief sat back into the large leather chair.

‘I want to investigate Victor Adamovich.’

The chief was silent a moment. He ran his hand over his snow white beard.

‘I know it’s a long shot, but a man like him should never think he’s above the law.’ He watched the chief. He knew he couldn’t tell him about what had happened in Finland. If he did he’d lose his credibility. ‘Victor Adamovich belongs behind bars.’

The chief sighed, and then sat back up. ‘I think you might want to let that one go.’

‘I don’t understand. I thought you of all people would want to stop him once and for all.’

The chief placed his hands beneath his chin. ‘Your obsession with him worries me.’

‘I may seem a little obsessed, but it’s for a good reason. If we catch a man like Victor, we’ll be putting half the criminals out of business.’ He was adamant.

‘Yes, I see your point.’ He sat back again. ‘But unless you have something solid on Mister Adamovich, I suggest you drop it. We can’t waste resources chasing ghosts.’

‘He’s not a ghost. He’s real.’

‘I know, but you can’t prove anything. None of us can. He has legitimate businesses all around the world. He pays his taxes on time. I need you to concentrate on the real crimes.’

That was the thing. Gates believed that most of the crimes would be solved if the main man was put away.

‘I’d say more proof, and then I’ll look into it.’

Detective Gates was about to hesitate, but accepted it.

‘I’ll get more proof then. I’ll find something on him you just can’t ignore.’ He stood up.

‘Until you do, I suggest you focus on more pressing matters.’

The Detective nodded and left him. The moment the door shut, the chief picked up the phone.

‘He won’t let it go,’ he said as soon as Victor picked up.

‘Well make it go away. What do I pay you for? You enjoy a luxurious life chief, at my expense. Do your job?’

‘I’m trying. Do you have any idea why he’s so obsessed with you?’

‘I do.’ Victor smiled lightly. ‘He’s in
