Being Mrs. Blakemore - Olivia Gaines

Prologue-On the Way to the Market

Odessa dreamed that she woke up covered in a sticky sweat, wearing a wedding ring and handcuffed to a white man. One finger was used to tap at his shoulder to wake him, but instead of rousting him from his sleep, he rolled over and threw a massive paw on her breast. She sat straight up in the bed, forcing her eyes to focus as she reoriented her brain to her surroundings.  She was still in her quarters on the cruise ship enjoying a Mexican vacation.

She heard the horn sounding and knew they had docked in Puerto Vallarta. It was a good trip thus far, with stops in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, and Loreta.  She had departed the ship before with sight-seeing groups, but decided today, she was feeling lucky, and ventured off on her own. The main drag from the ship was loaded with over-priced items that were probably made in China and shipped back to Mexico.  She wanted authentic Mexican items for her patio, and took a side street to the market place.  She spotted the black car that had been following her for the last three blocks.

Erring on the side of caution, she turned back on the street she had come down only to be faced with a gang of thugs. Each direction she headed, she would run into another group of scary men, and fear was starting to set in as she realized the men were herding her.  Odessa was in trouble and if she did not think fast, by nightfall, she could be on a bus headed to a private marketplace to be sold to the highest bidder.

There! A cantina, maybe someone there could help her. She spotted the man in the hat, she slowed down and gazed at him.  He looked very similar to the one she dreamed about.  When he spotted her, he stood up and waved. Right now, he was the only thing that stood between her and a sorrowful end. He was her winner today.

Chapter 1-Imminent Danger

Saxton Blakemore sat in Maria’s Cantina to escape the heat of the day. It was constantly obvious when the cruise ships were in port; there were always lovely young things wandering about the streets in pairs, purchasing cheap items they did not need, labeled Made in Mexico, but actually shipped in from China. There were very seldom any surprises in these young women—eyes devoid of any true light and conversation devoid of any true meaning.  On occasion, he would buy one a drink, and have a few passionate moments in an alley, followed by a blatant lie, I’ll call you when I get back to the U.S.

It had been six months since the last time he was back in the U.S. and a few months since his last back alley excursion. Saxton was bored, tired, and plain ready to go home to something normal. From under the brim of his hat, he first spotted the elongated chocolate legs that seemed to go on forever, then he spied the four sets of feet trailing close behind.  She seemed to be alone, headed for peril, and totally oblivious of the danger that was approaching.  Awwww, hell, he muttered to himself as he raised his hand, Hey, Baby, I’m over here!

She looked at him with a face full of confusion.  Those big brown eyes of hers caught him unaware and he stood frozen, trying to remember what he was doing. His eyes slowly wandered to the four men following her and to his utter and sheer amazement, she understood.  A hand was thrown up in the air to wave back at him as she made a quick trot across the street to rendezvous. She walked up to him and slapped his face, That is for making me come look for you! Then she planted a kiss on his lips, And this is because I am so damned happy to see you.

Saxton didn’t know who this woman was, but she comprehended what the men were attempting to do. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, whispering in her ear, You must have spotted them as well.

Of course I missed you too, Baby! she said flashing him a really big smile. They were herding me, she whispered. Saxton looked over her shoulder to see the men were moving in closer.  He
