Canadian picture-book creator Nicholas Oldland returns to the wild world of Bear, Moose and Beaver in this fourth picture-book, this time chronicling how the three friends must learn to work together, during the course of a canoe trip. Each animal has his own ideas about steering, paddling, and what to do when one encounters a beaver dam. Their arguing eventually leads them into a hairy situation, as they shoot toward a particularly wild series of rapids...Having greatly enjoyed the previous three picture-books about these friends - there is one each, for Bear, Moose and Beaver - I picked up this fourth entry in Oldland's series with great anticipation. I love the sense of humor in these stories, and the way they gently impart important messages without ever feeling didactic. Here the message is about working together to achieve a common goal, and it is delivered naturally, through an amusing tale. As ever, Oldland's simple artwork is drolly expressive, capturing the sense of humor throughout. Recommended to anyone who has read and enjoyed other books about these characters, and to anyone seeking children's stories about teamwork.

A bear, a moose, and a beaver decide to go canoeing together. Their disagreement made the canoe flip over, so they try several other ways to make it work. They come across all kinds of problems. Eventually, they accidentally ran into rapids, and got stranded on a rock. They eventually came up with a plan, and got to shore safely. This book can teach the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Disagreeing can lead to dire consequences.

There is a bear a beaver and moose that are best friends, but they cannot cooperate to have fun. One day they decide to go on a canoeing trip, but they cannot agree on how to steer, where to go, and they break the canoe. The bear, moose, and beaver made a plan, but no one could agree to any plan. Eventually when the three best friends suffered a lot, they began to cooperate and walked back to their homes. As an activity for kids I would like students to form groups of two and cooperate to build a fishing line and pole. The book made me realize that sometimes cooperating within a group is difficult because sometimes there are many opinions and disagreements. I would love to work in groups more often in my other classes, so that I can learn to cooperate within a group.

Beaver, Bear, and Moose suffer a series of entertaining mishaps on their canoe trip.

Close but not quite. This story about disagreements among friends while paddling a canoe is just too stiff in both story and art.
