    It's not fair to say that trouble happens every time PJ Sugar is around, but it feels that way when she returns to her home town, looking for a fresh start. Within a week, her former teacher is murdered and her best friend's husband is arrested as the number-one suspect.       To be honest, I took a long time to read this book because I did not expect to like it. I was wrong. PJ Sugar, the main character, has her imperfections and though she is a Christian she continues to struggle with being the best person she can be. Just like all of us. The book was funny. The characters were well-developed and I am eager to read the other books in this series.

      From my blog...Nothing But Trouble is the first book in Susan May Warren's PJ Sugar series. The reader is introduced to fun and quirky PJ Sugar who is finally returning home to Kellogg, Minnesota after being run out of town on her graduation day. Her homecoming is about as PJ expects, except running into her old boyfriend who is now a police officer, part of the reason she was run out of town. To make matters worse, PJ is left to care for her 4-year-old nephew, whom she has never met, while her sister goes off on her honeymoon, what could possibly go wrong in two short weeks? The reader is soon introduced to the quirky inhabitants of this charming small town and trouble seems to follow PJ wherever she goes. When her best friend's husband is arrested for murder PJ decides to do some digging around on her own to uncover the identity of the true murderer. PJ Sugar is a loveable and rather sharp-witted character, the novel is quite engaging as well as endearing and I would recommend Nothing But Trouble to anyone looking for a charming cozy mystery, but be prepared to want to immediately follow-up with the next novel in the series, Double Trouble.

      This is the first book that I read by Susan May Warren and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a book that once you started reading it, you couldn't put it down. I loved PJ. It kind of reminded me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

      I enjoyed this book a lot and it was perfect for a quick summer read. It was funny, entertaining, and didn't strain to give you a typical ending. It's a great beginning to a new series, and I'll be marking my calendar for the next installment.

      I had originally wanted to go 4, but in retrospect, I would seriously consider re-reading Nothing But Trouble again because it actually turned out pretty decent! PJ proves to be a fun and likeable main character. I never knew what would happen next - all I knew is that it probably led to trouble!Nothing But Trouble was a fun and fast-paced read that included some Christian elements as PJ comes to terms with herself and the past that haunts her. The love triangle that emerges between PJ, Boone, and Jeremy also helped to keep my interest - both men have their advantages, but I think it will be interesting to see who will ultimately win PJ's heart. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel to see what trouble PJ finds herself in after discovering a knack for private investigation!

      Okay, when I first started this book, I admit in my head I rolled my eyes a bit. Because I knew EXACTLY what was going to happen ...she would return home, struggle, something would happen, she's ask for forgiveness, they would forgive her, she'd get the guy and life would end happily ever after.Umm, wrong! LOL! Once I started reading I realized that was not at all how it would happen - and I was so glad for it! I loved this book! Just feel in love with PJ. Loved the mystery aspect of it, and loved that it felt a lot more realistic than similar genre books feel. And for that, I am grateful!When the next PJ books come out, I will be getting my hands on it to read it! I am so glad I was sent this book, and am so embarrassed that I was so ready to write it off in the first chapter. But boy am I glad I didn't put it down and walk away at that point! LOL!

      This chick lit is a whodunit murder mystery, with a touch of romance and a bit of humor. It's a quick read; the pages seem to turn themselves. I enjoyed it. The protagonist, PJ Sugar, a young lady with major self-esteem issues who returns home afraid that no one will accept her, let alone welcome her. She's NBT--nothing but trouble, according to one person in town. Somehow, PJ handles the curves life throws her way. I like the way she handles her four-year-old nephew, Davy. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. PJ's relationship with her mother is slowly revealed in this novel, and I look forward to reading more about that. Boone and PJ are made for each other, but Jeremy promises to complicate things in the future. This series is off to a good start.

      What wonderfully Sweet book! And PJ Sweet is a completely lovable character. There is a little bit of PJ in all of us and I can't wait for the next installment to see how she grows and finds herself. What I really liked about the book was that the author was able to subtly include faith in PJ. It didn't overwhelm the story and helped guide PJ as she continued to make mistakes. Whether you are a person of faith or not, this is a really great read and I can't wait for book 2! I will also be adding more books by Susan May Warren!

      Full disclosure: I didn't read all of this book.I thought this would be a fun, light mystery series, so I wasn't expecting great literature. I also wasn't expecting the first scene to be all about how the main character isn't pastor's wife material, and I was very put off by it. First of all, there is no explanation what that means. Is she not socially skilled enough? Too young and carefree? Not devout enough? A whore or something? No idea. Now, I didn't know that this would be a Christian-centric book, and I wouldn't have gotten it if I did. However, I still would have read the book if the writing wasn't so terrible. It read like something dashed off by a new writer, so I was shocked when I went to the author's note to see that she has written 18 books before this one. Who buys these books? Is the standard for Christian writers really that much lower? I firmly believe that it is possible to write a book that is religiously oriented that has literary merit, but this was definitely not it. I tried to keep reading, but I was afraid I would hurt myself with my violent eye-rolling, so I had to stop.

      My first impression of "Nothing but Trouble" was that there was just too much flowery description distracting from the actual happenings of the story. The first scene could have been cut down and been much more interesting to read with a few of the unnecessary descriptors cut. Second was that it is very Stephanie Plum-lite. Not nearly as witty, and the characters just fall flat.Halfway through the book I was willing to say since it was the first novel I've read by Susan May Warren that I just needed to warm up to her style, but by the end I felt no different about the characters or plot. Very unimpressed overall, and it didn't even leave me curious to read her other books.

      I may not have chosen this book had I known that it was an Inspirational, but in for a penny - in for a pound. PJ Sugar has been in an out of some sort of trouble seemingly all her life. Her answer ten years ago was to run as far and as fast away as she possibly could. Over the years, she has gained knowledge in all sorts of things. She's been a zoo keeper, a stunt woman, a makeup artist among other things. Now she has come back to her hometown at her Mothers and sisters bequest and trouble seems to find her once again. This time it's murder that she stumbles upon. Plus then there is trouble in the shape of Boone her ex-boyfriend and fellow youthful trouble maker.This is a very cute novel that appears to be a first in a series of other books soon to follow. My fellow readers may have thought that the Christian message was subtle but I think that it (toward the end at least) it was a tad too preachy for me. But don't forget, I'm not the person who would have necessarily bought this in the first place! I will say that I most likely will buy the next one, because I'd like to see PJ grow through her belief in herself. Well that, and I want to see which hottie she may pick in the end! LOL!If I have anything bad to say about this book it's that I was very surprised to find out that this was a first in a series. The way it was written I felt that I had missed a previous book or two somewhere along the line. A lot of it, the emotional stuff was scattered and felt as if it was just thrown in later on for the heck of it and the plotting style was somewhat jerky and left so many things left unexplained. Some first time readers may find that a problem. Some things since they weren't ever explained just seems so out of left field like really - just why did Connie leave her son with a sister she hadn't seen in ten years? And why leave that same trouble causing sister with the in-laws that couldn't speak English? These are some simple things that should have been made clearer, at least in my opinion.

      PJ Sugar's life is a mess, but sometimes, in this quirky town of Kellogg, she seems to be the only one who has it all together. Told entirely from PJ's point of view, the book regales us with PJ's often humorous past transgressions, becoming a Christian and returning to Kellogg for the first time in 10 years. Along the way, we are introduced to PJ’s family and friends, learn the reasons for her return and enjoy all of it as she tries to help a friend prove her husband’s innocence, watch over her nephew and try to make things right for everyone. The Christian message is subtle, never “preachy”, and just right. Susan May Warren has a winner with the start of the PJ Sugar series; I can’t wait for the next installment!
