About this ebook

A Christmas snow globe from a mysterious stranger swirls holiday magic for a sophisticated New York woman with a broken heart and a handsome Iraq War vet with a secret.

As a child, Avery Coleman loved Snow White and dreamed of Prince Charming. The adult Avery no longer believes in fairy tales. She’d settle for a handsome prince as ambitious for success as she is. Then an eccentric woman gives Avery a Christmas snow globe, advising her that princes come in many disguises. But when family obligations call Avery from Manhattan back to her small hometown in Vermont, she finds there aren’t many princes to be found in the forest of her family’s Christmas tree lot. At least it’s a vacation from her wicked witch of a boss.

Iraq War veteran Josh Huntsman always did what was expected of him. Believing there had to be more to life than chasing money and prestige, he’d left the corporate world for life in the Army. But his stint in the military cost him more than expected. Back from Iraq, Josh hides his past, volunteering at the homeless shelter and working at a Christmas tree lot. He isn’t ready to rejoin the rat race, and definitely has no use for a bright-lights-big-city girl like the ambitious fiancée who dumped him.

Leaving New York to spend the holidays selling Christmas trees in Vermont might sound magical to some, but for Avery, it’s a return to the place she worked hard to escape. But it’s Christmas and magic swirls in the air like glitter in a snow globe. And a single kiss might awaken a lifetime of happily ever after.

    CHAPTER ONE

Avery Coleman stepped off the elevator into the reception center of the Manhattan offices that housed the fashion magazine where she worked. She drew a calming breath. You can do this, Avery.

It was two weeks before Christmas and she had to convince her boss, the formidable Edie Queensland, senior editor, to give her time off for the holidays. Her parents and her sister needed her in Vermont. But the icy Edie Queensland could freeze those plans.

In her three years with the magazine, Avery hadn’t been able to convince Edie to let her write articles with her own byline. Edie said she’d hired Avery as her assistant not as a writer.

Morning, Tiff, she said to the receptionist.

Hey, Avery. Tiffany grimaced and nodded toward Edie’s office. She wants to see you.

Of course she does, Avery thought, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. As she strode toward her boss’s office, she unbuttoned her coat, feeling suddenly overheated.

    Avery, wait up.

She turned to see Molly, one of the secretaries, hurrying toward her. Smiling, Molly handed Avery a flyer.

Avery glanced down at the bright green paper. What’s this?

My community on Long Island is having a Christmas craft fair this Saturday to benefit one of the no-kill shelters. I hope you can come and please bring some friends. The shelter really needs the money.

I’ll try, Molly. Sounds like a worthy cause.

Thanks. With a small wave, Molly walked away.

Avery stuck the flyer in her purse and continued to Edie’s office. Steeling herself, she knocked on the door, then opened it at Edie’s strident, Come in.

Her boss, blond hair in a sleek bob, looked up when Avery entered. Edie glanced at the wall clock. You’re late.

It’s seven twenty. I’m forty minutes early.

I don’t have time for excuses. Edie grabbed some papers from her desk and held them out to Avery. Here are the points I need to cover for my April editor’s letter. Write it and have it back to me by January second.

Avery took the proffered papers and met Edie’s pale blue gaze. I’ll get writing credit this time, won’t I?

"Of course not. It’s my letter. And you’re my assistant, not a writer."

But I’m a good writer. You know that.

    That’s beside the point.

Don’t argue, Avery. You need this job and you need that vacation.

When Avery didn’t move, Edie looked at her over the top of her half glasses. Do you want something?

I do. Avery straightened her shoulders and went into the speech she’d rehearsed.

"I didn’t take all my vacation days last year and I’ve got some left for this year. I need time off to go to Vermont and help my family. With my parents unavoidably away and my sister seven months’ pregnant, I have to help out at our Christmas tree lot. I’d like to start my vacation a few
