Life, Love & All That Other Stuff - Nicole Jennings

    count

    - A daughter's quest

I've seen the backs of should've's

And was lucky enough to have felt the embrace of a decided to

You walked into my life at a young age

You stood by me and I stuck to you

You were all I could ever ask for wrapped up in one being

It was the happiest time of my life,

    I finally had a father

I had you for 10 years, which seemed like a blink of an eye, because you died & I missed ample opportunity to cry

And i swear they should've cremated me with you cause a part of me died and went in the flame with you

My heart is encrusted with black ash by the dust of your remains

Years have went by and my heart still cringes in anguish from the mention of your name

As a result I damned all religion

I was sure God took you away to spite me

How could you give someone what they've yearned for so long, and then yank it from under their feet?

    And you call yourself righteous?

So i turned my back and from his grip broke free

I can visit your grave 100 times

And still to this day have yet to mourn you

I haven't visited your grave since the first time because I don't want to mourn you

I needed something, some part of you to hold onto

I would've massaged Gods feet & serenaded the devil

But I fell from grace and was left an empty shell

I overstayed my welcome up top and was banished from hell

All just to bring back a piece of you

But I've yet to find it

And I don't think I'll ever find you

    Because I lost myself

    - 21

She chased that bitter river, knowing it had no end

As if she wanted the flow of it to define
