Introduction
A large percentage of us may never ever get the opportunity of just wandering off into the woods, and getting lost, because we are basically city persons, and there is no picture of our ever exploring in the wilderness.
Nevertheless, for all of us others who spend plenty of time going on hikes into the wilderness, wilderness survival techniques should be part of our nature survival training. That is because the difference between knowledge and ignorance can make all the difference between survival and possible death.

A Beginner's Guide to Forest Survival - Dueep J. Singh
Does anybody have any idea where I am? I am completely lost!
If we had been born 2000 years ago, we would not have bothered much about worrying about survival in the forests, because the elders of our tribes would have begun training us to survive in the forest, ever since we were babes. Even up to 250 years ago, forest survival and woodcraft would have the accepted way of life for a majority of us.
But that Daniel Boone and Kit Carson survival spirit and knowledge has been lost to a large number of us in the 21st century. In fact, I remember asking a Commando uncle of mine, why wood survival training techniques were not taught to children nowadays.
His answer was that I would ask a question like that, because I was rather half savage myself, having been brought up in jungles and forests. The children of this generation were more pampered. Besides, he said dolefully – Where are the woods now?
That last statement may seem like a little bit of an exaggeration, but believe it or not, we have managed to reduce the wood cover of the earth from 65% to 32% in the 20th and 21st century. And every year, human encroachment is reducing the wood cover even more.
If it was not for Teddy Roosevelt, you would definitely not have wilderness forests and parks in the USA. That was because in the late 19th century, uncontrolled lumber milling and cutting timber had begun destroying miles and miles of forests.
The Limberlost forest – made so famous by Gene Stratton Porter in her books – Freckles, Girl of the Limberlost – is one such example.
However, we are still lucky that there are still parts of the world, where we can say, we can get lost in the jungles! The still existing rainforests are such a place. And if you live in an area where the woods are just at your doorstep, consider yourself fortunate.
Quo Vadis?
The well mapped out idea of Wither Goest Thou , especially when you are going for wilderness hikes is a practical one.
So here are some tips and techniques, which you can use if you were just hiking or picnicking in the woods, and you wandered off. And suddenly, you
