Way too cheesy for me. Does the author know any high school students? Because none of the kids in this book resemble any of the high school kids I know. They all seemed way too good or way too evil. And as a public school employee, I found the behavior of the adults in the story completely bizarre. We are required by law to report even the smallest suspicion of child abuse, and any coach acting like the one who called the student a derogatory name and looked the other way when he was bullied would be fired in a second. I know the author was trying to make a really good point about bullying, but I wish it could have been done in a more realistic manner. I'm not saying that bullying doesn't happen, just that the things that happened in this book seemed very unrealistic and over done. However, I did enjoy this author's other book, Unlovable .

I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review. With bullying going on in so many schools nowadays and the way it’s handled, this story is heartwarming and many should pick it up. Although the main character Max dies in an auto accident, he’s allowed to go back to earth and assist a young man named JD, the one being accused of causing the accident. JD has been friends with Lizzy for what feels like forever and they have made a pact. They are each other’s only friend. Max is torn with his feelings for Emma who has a kind heart and had been his girlfriend. She’s having a hard time with the loss of Max and finds a friendship in JD that allows him to be brought out of the shell of trauma he has endured in his years in school and at home. But in order for Max to move on, he has to change the mindset that JD has consumed himself with for so long. I found myself in tears over the torment these young teens went thru as I myself had endured the many effects of being bullied as well and understand the impact it still has on my life many years later. If this story can help save even one person’s life, I would suggest it to everyone I know to pick it up and never give up hope.
